Car Seat for 6m+ with strong acid reflux (Gerd)

Hi All,

My baby girl is suffering from strong acid reflux. She is on medication an dairy free diet so its under control (sort of) but car journeys are still a nightmare. I have transferred her to joie stages car seat but she screams and screams even on 5 minute journeys. I have done some research and there are a few car seats on US market recommended for babies with reflux like" Britax Marathon click tight " but I could not find any recommendations for UK Market. Do you have any recommended seat (I know nothing will work perfect) that will cause her less discomfort while travelling...? We have 5 hour journey to do soon that we need to do and I can't imagine it happening right now. Please help 🙏 P. S She is 9.6 kg so she is allowed in the next stage car seat

The Joie Stages is quite laid back so this might be causing the problem.

At 6 months she still needs to be rear facing, so I'd look for a seat which can rear face. At 9.5kg she's quite big for her age, so the seats which rear face up to 25kg might be the best option? They tend to have the ability to go really upright as well because they're designed to go up to 6 years and a recline takes up too much space with older children, so might be perfect.

I'd look into these:

Axkid Move
Britax Multi-Tech 3
Britax Hi Way 2

Or if you want to spend a bit more for more features (the above are just as safe):

Axkid Minikid
Britax Max Way Plus
Besafe izi Plus

I don't think any UK seats are marketed as being for reflux but these will all allow her to be more upright anyway.

You can also find some isofix seats which have a choice of recline so can be upright or reclined, but I would say these will be a waste of money for you as she will likely reach the 18kg weight limit at about 2.5 years old if she continues on her current growth line. So you'll end up needing a 25kg seat later anyway.

HI BertieBotts

Yeah she is a big girl 😂 she was born underweight and then not gaining from reflux and cow milks allergies and now she seems to just grow and grow 🤷‍♀️.

Thank you very much for all recommendations! I will look into these now. Its so hard to decide what's best without trying her in them so it's so good to have someone else's opinion.

Have a lovely day!

Bless her :)

If you did want to try these seats out in person it would be a good idea to look on the Axkid website and see if their stockist list shows anyone near you. They tend to be independent retailers so you probably won't know the names. Don't be put off by this, as independent retailers are generally great at advising for special situations like yours. The Axkid stockists might have Britax and Besafe seats as well :)
