Car seats for 28kg+

My daughter has 'low tone' because she was born ex-prem at 25 weeks. She's now 28kg and we're having trouble finding a large enough car seat with a 5 point harness that works in our Campervan. Driving around corners can have her topple sideways and she can't right herself so we have to stop.

Most car seats only harness to 18kg and there’s a few that go to 25kg in both forward and rear facing. The klippan opti-129 harnesses up to 32kg but is rear facing only and approx £400 so very expensive! I’d speak to the in car safety centre, I know they do the Britax traveller that harnessed to 36kg and I think they’d be the best to advise you on what to you

The Britax Traveller might work, but it all depends if it can be safely installed in a camper van, and whether you've got £600 to spare....

You need to speak to the In Car Safety Centre as they specialise in the seats for children with special needs, either harnessed or with extra body support.

They can help you look into funding as well as these seats are not cheap. But no standard car seat will accommodate up to that weight so you're into the special needs market now I'm afraid.

@JulieTuesday

How is she in a high backed booster? Combined with a Crelling harness and vehicle seatbelt could be a bit too expensive option?

Not too expensive even!!

DS1 has a Stingray car seat, but it's even more expensive than the other options mentioned here. It goes up to 36kg.

Thank you for all your messages. Very helpful. We visited the In car Safety Centre on Wednesday and they've sorted us out with advice. Thankfully a low budget interim solution. The alternative going forward are having the 3-point harness fitted in the Campervan adapted by the Campervan Conversion place where we bought the Campervan. This may get expensive, we'll have to cross that bridge when we come to it.
