Hi, can anyone recommend a newborn car seat that's compatible with the iCandy Orange? Thanks!

iCandy takes both Maxi Cosi and Britax adapters, so you have the following range of brands you can put on it:

Maxi Cosi
Cybex
Joie
Nuna
Besafe
Recaro
Axkid
using the Maxi Cosi/universal adapters

and Britax using the Britax adapters.

Obviously a lot there to choose from - what features are you looking for in the seat? Do you have isofix in your car and would you want to use it with a base?

We had a Maxi-cosy Pebble but I think there's a newer model or two now. As pp said you can get the adaptors and they'll go straight into your icandy.

Thank you both! Yes we have Isofix and would like one that meets i-size regulations ideally. I quite like the lie flat feature of some car seats but I've heard they potentially aren't as safe as more upright car seats? So many choices Confused It's really confusing as iCandy have a small list of compatible car seats on their website but for example only a few Maxi Cosi and Joie seats seem to be suitable and I wasn't sure why. I think it may be an older list as some I've Googled have been discontinued Hmm

Lie flat ones that go laterally in the car are historically (based on accident data) known to be less safe than those which face the rear of the car. There are some newer lateral ones which have good crash test results, but crash test dummies aren't real babies and because they are relatively little used, we don't have a lot of real world data, so I would personally still be suspicious of them.

There are newer seats which are sold as "lie flat" which face the rear of the vehicle although in reality they do not lie completely flat, they do have a flatter angle than other car seats which can help alleviate the issues with upright car seats, but they seem to score well in crash testing anyway, at least the Joie i-Level does. You can also position them more upright for some journeys, and in the lie-flat position for others.

iCandy's list will be out of date. They always are because new car seats come out all the time and so they just list popular models on there. Most of the current compatibility lists are still listing "Kiddy" seats on there despite the fact they went out of business in 2019.

Thank you so much for the detailed response Blush Joie i-level was one of the seats I was looking at so that's good to know! I think it'll probably be between Maxi Cosi or Joie but it's just so hard to know without trying them. Hoping the shops might open up soon though - I'm not due for a few months so I've got a bit of time!

Maxi Cosi have a new one which is a bit like the i-Level - Maxi Cosi Marble.

I think they will probably open up in the spring and you don't have as long of a lead time on car seats, it's a good idea to try them out in your car if you can as well. One issue with the ones that recline in the car is they take up much more front to back space, which can be an issue if you have a small car.
