NEED A CAR SEAT VERY QUICKLY

Asking on behalf of my daughter who MAY be awarded care of two foster children this afternoon, the children are literally sat in their classroom waiting for the judge's final decision. We need to buy two car seats for a 4 and 7 year old, they are malnourished so tiny for their age. This is all very different from when I had my babies 30 plus years ago. What can you all please recommend. Could the 7 year old have a booster seat.

Ask the allocated
Social Workers as they often have spare ones to tide you over until you can get new ones.

Both should go in high backed booster seats, held in with the normal seatbelt, provided they weigh 15kg or more (the 7 year old will, the 4 year old may not weigh that much if they are small).

If the 4 year old is less than 15kg then they will need a seat with a 5 point harness.

Argos or Halfords can sell you them from stock. In a emergency, the children can travel short distances without a seat. Eg to drive to buy one.

No to the booster seat you will need a seat with a back at 7 years old.

You used to be able to buy decent enough car seats at the bigger Asda stores for about £30 but don't know if that's an all year round thing.

Can you not borrow two for today and then you'll have the weekend to look online?

I would hazard a guess that a small 4 year old wont be over 15kg, so a seat with a 5 point harness for them (my youngest was more like 5 before he hit 15kg).
High backed booster for the 7 year old.

I'd try Argos or Halfords.

Agree that a small 4 year old won't be over 15kg. My 5 year old is around 25th centile and made it over 15kg at around 4 yrs 6 months.

There should be some group 1 seats available in stock in Argos, Smyth's and Halfords.

7 year old will need a high backed booster. I prefer isofix for HBBs to reduce faff after you've got the child out.

Amazon can do 1 day delivery if getting home is sorted. Got both of our cybex HBBs from Amazon.

Thank you all .. I've gone online and ordered from Halfords. They need them asap as they will have a visitation tomorrow. Am going to get a different one for the 4 year old though after reading your comments. Thank goodness for credit cards !

The social worker should provide/lend them! You don't want to buy them as you never know, until the very last minute, if this will actually happen or how long they will stay.

If not too late, I would get Britax Evolva 123 for the 4yo, which they can likely use with the harness.

For the 7yo Britax Adventure would be fine or if you can spend a bit more, Joie Traver / Joie Trillo LX is really good for the cost.
