Is the base easily transferable or should we buy one for each car?
Thanks

Easily transferable but wouldn't want to do it daily myself.
I've seen quite a few second hand bases for sale for £10 so could be a good option. I bought my base for £170😳

loveskaka · 26/07/2020 22:43

Yes but can't be a pain, how often would u be transferring?

Kintsugi16 · 26/07/2020 23:10

Probably just weekends

What I done was buy a cheaper car seat for other cars (once in a blue moon) and the iso fix in my own car. Now I only have the iso as he dsnt go in other cars x

Thanks.
I just wondered what others did 😊

I didn't want to buy one as they were expensive even second hand but I think it's the best baby money I spent.

I'd get two (second hand) because actually mine started to become less easy to use put in over time. Probably all crumbs in it...

Kintsugi16 · 28/07/2020 16:15

I suppose if you’re planning another baby you will eventually need two anyway?

We have a base in each car, one of them was ex display stock on eBay for £60 and the other came with the pram. They're like £170 though!

They take 30 seconds to fit, and as long as it wasn't every day I would switch (but we didn't want to be caught short with pick ups etc when baby goes to day care).

If you want the convenience then get one for each car, if you're not in that much of a rush it's not rocket science to do.

But, check your base and how long it'll last. Our bases fit the next size seat on so last essentially until a toddler. Some seats only allow group 0 so that would mean another set of bases in 12 months.

teaandbiscuitsforme · 28/07/2020 16:24

Presumably you're talking about an infant carrier? I definitely wouldn't get two isofix bases just for weekends. I would have one in the car that the baby most travels in and then just belt fit it in the second car at the weekend. There's no difference in safety provided both methods of installation are done properly.

BlueLadybird · 28/07/2020 22:30

Two bases here. You can pick them up fairly cheaply second hand.

I think the seats for older children tend to use a different base or come with one so probably not useful for a second child though.

BertieBotts · 29/07/2020 19:45

Depending on which seat you get, a lot of them can be strapped in with the car seatbelt as well, so you could do this for the weekend. Or swap the base... or get a second base! Lots of options.

About needing two, not necessarily, it depends which base you have and which toddler seat you choose after the infant seat.

Which seat and base is it that you have?

Kintsugi16 · 31/07/2020 07:40

It’s a Cybex Cloud Z Seat and Cybex Z Base

Thanks

We got two but they were the ones that cover the first car seat and now the second one. Maxi cosy pebble and now pearl. It is easier, DH does nursery run as well and sometimes at short notice so we definitely need two seats.

BertieBotts · 02/08/2020 08:49

Yes I think you can strap the Cloud Z in with the seatbelt if you want to do that - the base is so expensive!

As for the next stage seat, you could get a second base and put the Sirona Z on it, or for less money you could get a rotating seat with the base built in. Most of these are actually suitable from birth so you could keep the Cloud for your main seat and have the birth-4 years (ish/18kg/105cm) seat full time in the second car until the baby outgrows the infant seat and then look at swapping it or getting a second one, especially if you think you'll have another DC.

Cheaper than seat + base (£400):
Cybex Sirona S i-size with sensorsafe
Maxi Cosi Mica
Joie i-Spin 360
Joie i-Spin safe (RWF only)
Recaro Zero 1 elite i-size (includes pop out infant carrier)
Recaro Zero 1 i-size (without infant carrier, suitable from birth)
Britax Dualfix i-size
GB Vaya 2 i-size
GB Vaya i-size with sensorsafe
Nuna Rebl Plus
Nuna Norr (RWF only)
Silver Cross Motion

Cheaper than seat alone (£260):
Joie 360 Spin
Joie Spin Safe (RWF only)
Cybex Sirona S i-size (nb, this is the same seat!!)
Britax Dualfix 2R

Or you could even (later) get a toddler seat which does from about 1 year all the way up to 6/7 years rear facing (25kg) for the same money:

Under £260:
Britax Two-Way Elite
Britax Max Way
Britax Multi-Tech 3
Axkid Move
Diono Radian 5

Under £400:
Britax Max Way Plus (sometimes dips down to £220ish)
Axkid Minikid
Besafe izi Plus
Klippan Century

And for another option (in case this isn't enough :o) there are infant carriers which are cheaper than the base (£140) which you could keep in the second car at all times:

All Joie infant seats except i-Level (For Gemm/Juva the clickfit base also comes in under budget)
Britax Babysafe
Maxi Cosi Citi
Maxi Cosi Cabriofix
Maxi Cosi Tinca i-size
Cybex Aton
Cybex Aton M i-size (fits longer)
Silver Cross Simplicity
Hauck Comfort Fix
Graco Snugride
Graco Snugride i-Size

0-4 years seats which are cheaper than £140:
Joie Steadi
Joie Tilt
Joie Stages
Britax First Class Plus (but only RF to 13kg)

Wow BertieBotts
Thanks for all that info!

I use the Cybex Cloud Z with a car seatbelt instead of isofix and it's perfectly safe and not difficult to do. In Which? safety tests it even scored slight higher with a seatbelt than the base.
