Narrow high backed booster seat

Hi I need a new car seat for my 3.5 year old. He’s very tall and pretty heavy. Trouble is I also have a 12 year old to fit in the back of the car (no car seat) and an18 month old in a joie stedi.
I need a very narrow seat to fit them all in.
Any advice on seats to maximise space for a teenager sitting in between car seats?

at that age dc should ideally be back facing, so shoulders aren't an issue.

We have a graco junior but use it for older children. It seems to be far less bulky in the base than others

Thanks!

The Radian 5 goes from birth-12yrs and is one of the narrowest seats out there. It would mean your 3yo can be rear facing, or at least strapped in with a harness (it's takes up to 25kg harnessed weight) until he's old enough for a booster, when it an be used it booster mode.

Britax-Romer Adventure, Maxi-Cosi Rodi and Besafe iZi Flex Fix are three of the narrowest boosters.

But I'm afraid it's a case of trial and error - go to a big retailer and try everything they've got!

The Besafe one has a crotch guard to reduce the chances of the little one going under the seatbelt which might be useful.

Bear in mind if you get a booster with isofix, you can fold the isofix hooks away. This might get you some extra sideways room, as long as it doesn't make the seatbelt kink through the belt guard. You might actually find booster in the middle works better than on the outside, particularly if you can find one where the shape of the base tesselates nicely with the Joie Steadi, but then that does leave the 12yo more exposed to side impacts.

The Radian 5 doesn't have a booster mode. But yes, you could use it forward facing with a harness, if you have top tether, or rear facing if not. If he's tall it might be a bit of a false economy as the harness height isn't very high. It's a bit higher than a standard Group 1 seat.

If you want more options in that league, Cozy n Safe Hudson is worth a look - 44cm wide (that's the same as the Britax Adventure) and can be harnessed up to 25kg if you want. Needs top tether.
