Maxi-Cosi pebble differences

Hi. A friend is very kindly giving us her maxi-cosi pebble and isofix base for our newborn.

I think it may be the original model rather than the plus or pro. If so, does anybody know what the differences are? I've read online that it's the newborn inlay cushion. If that's all it is then I can buy one of these on amazon. Do you know of any other differences?

Also does anybody know if there is a difference between the 2 way fix base and the 3 way fix?

Thanks in advance.

You can't put the newer infant insert into the old pebble I don't think. But that's not an issue, the insert in the original pebble is also good. I actually like it a lot for newborn head shape. There will be some other differences probably side impact protection. The newer ones are i-size and have a small height limit which is actually a bit of a pain because it means bigger babies will be too big for the seat before they are really suitable for the next group up. The original pebble is very roomy though and should last you well over a year before you need to buy another one.

The difference between the two way and three way pearl is in which of the next stage seats it's compatible with. I know the three way also takes the Jade carrycot, but you won't be needing that as you've got an infant seat. For the next stage the most important thing is to ensure you've got the option to continue rear facing as this is much safer than forward facing. Both the two way and three way base will take a rear (or forward) facing seat so that's good. The difference is just which specific versions of the newer seats they take. The two way base takes the 2way pearl, the 3 way base takes one or both of the newer ones, pearl pro and pearl plus. I'm not sure if either of those go on the 2way - best thing to do would be find a maxi cosi stockist and ask them about the differences. But to be honest I would not get hung up on the stage 2 seat. If you plan on having another baby, you might find that it's more economical to get a totally different seat that doesn't go on the base at all, in order to leave the base free for DC2.

OK. I've just been to look at Maxi Cosi's website and I'm none the wiser as to what the differences are between all the various Pearl models - sorry!!

I know that the original Pearl with no suffix or prefix is forward facing only, and all of the other Pearl seats (2 way Pearl, Pearl Pro, Pearl One, Pearl Smart etc) all go both ways. But what the differences are between those, I have no idea.

I think only the 2way Pearl goes on the 2 way base, and a different one goes on the 3 way base. But finding a stockist and asking to speak to the car seat person who has been trained by maxi cosi will be your best bet. Or ask Maxi Cosi directly by email?

That's really helpful @BertieBotts , thank you for taking the time to reply!

I'm not too worried about the next stage up yet for the reasons that you say. Just want to make sure that baby is comfy in what we're being given and that it's just as safe etc.

Thanks again!

Went to a stockist at the weekend as I have a maxi cosi pebble without the newborn insert and wanted to know if they sold them separately. They didn't have them in stock but she told me that they do do them. However, she told me that the better option is to get the separate newborn insert for the pebble plus as it also fits inside the original pebble. She said the advantage is that you get the benefits of the pebble plus insert (which is much more robust) without sacrificing on space in the car as the original pebble has narrower dimensions. This was very useful for me to find out as I have to fit the baby seat in the back alongside two booster seats!

Thanks @chuffoff and sorry for taking a while to reply, I've only just seen your comment. That's very helpful!
