Car seat for Discovery 2

Sue120715 · 10/08/2019 09:33

I went to Halfords yesterday to get a new car ear for my 4 year old son as he has out grown his Maxi-Cosi Axis seat.
They were very helpful but when we tried a seat in my Discovery 2 they told me that none of their car seats would fit as we have an issue with forward anchorage and don't have Isofix.
Has anyone out their got a Discovery 2 and found a car seat to fit?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

What type of seat are you looking for - harnessed or high back booster? And what weight is your son?

My son is 16.5 kgs which means he can still use a harness seat (up to 18 kgs apparently) or a high back booster - ideally one that will last till he is 12 years old but to be honest just looking for one that fits the car without Isofix.
Spoke to someone at In Car Safety Centre yesterday they said some Britax seats should fit so investigating that option.

There are 25kg rear facing seats that install without isofix so if you wanted to rear face, they're a really good option. The 25kg forward facing seats need isofix and top tether so they'd be no good for you.

How tall is he? I'm not sure what the tallest forward facing 18kg seats are but obviously the In Car Safety centre know their stuff so the Britax ones may very well be the best to look at.

Otherwise there is some thinking that children who are tall enough, heavy enough and mature enough to sit in a high back booster are safer in those seats rather than a harnessed forward facing seat. That's because the adult seatbelt would move and then retract in a crash which lowers the force on the neck where as a harnessed seat maintains the position of the child's body so the head and neck get flung back with greater force. So some experts recommend missing out forward facing harnessed seats (going straight from rear facing to HBB once the child is old enough) because of this.

Thanks for responding.
I will probably go to the In Car Safety Centre in Essex as they will help me try different seats out to find one that fits.
