Which Joie?

mummywingingit · 31/07/2019 09:47

We've just started looking at the next seat for the baby.
I'm liking the joie brand, and hear good things about them. I just don't know which one to get? So thought I would see if anyone here has them, and can offer a review?

Joie stages

Joie every stage

Joie spin

These are the ones I'm interested in

Hi, we have the stages and every stage. I personally prefer the stages out of the two. Don't really have many reasons to back that up but it's a lot easier to use/move.

mummywingingit · 31/07/2019 14:13

@SushiTime thank you. I read somewhere else that someone prefers the stages to every stages.

How old is your baby?
What centiles are they on for height and weight?
What car do you have?

Spidygirl · 31/07/2019 14:26

I have the every stage, we've been using it for about 3 years now and no complaints. It is a bit heavy if you're going to be moving it from car to car though.

THNG5 · 31/07/2019 14:37

We have the Joie 360 and love it! My oldest is nearly 3 and is still perfectly comfortable in it.

MindyStClaire · 31/07/2019 14:56

We have the spin 360, really like it so far (DD 15 months, been in it for a few months now). It was recommended by several people in my birth month FB group, including one woman who was about to buy her 4th (two young kids, two cars).

DD always hated going in the car in her maxi cosi infant carrier, but she loves going in in the spin - I think there's much less disruption for her to just go in facing me and then be turned, rather than being plonked in in the seat, or me having to stretch over the side of the seat to put her in if it was already fitted. If that makes sense.

mummywingingit · 31/07/2019 16:16

Thanks everyone 😊 really helpful.
We have a three door atm, and will be changing this in December to a 5 door...Baby will be 10 months old then, so although should still fit his first seat, not sure my back can take much more of lifting into a three door...so thinking, might get next size seat early so it's fixed in.
It won't be moved out the car, as my parents are only other people who have him (rarely) and they are getting the Joie stages for their car.
I have a weak back due to twisted pelvis in pregnancy, and it gives me jip now he is heavier, which is what makes the 360 spin enticing

As @NameChange30 said. Depends on these details. My kids are large so would outgrown the spin one really quickly so we discounted that.

NameChange30 · 31/07/2019 16:22

You should keep baby in the infant seat for as long as possible. Could you not just leave the seat in the car and put baby in and out? You would have to do that for the next seat anyway.

Given your back issues the Joie Spin seems like a good option. Do bear in mind that it's a Group 1 seat so it has an 18kg weight limit (and may be outgrown height-wise before the child weighs 18kg) so if your child is on higher centiles for weight and height you might want to consider something more long lasting.

yourestandingonmyneck · 31/07/2019 16:29

Stages.

It performs better than the every stage in safety testing.

It will last you much longer than the spin.

mummywingingit · 31/07/2019 16:29

Thank you @NameChange30 will look at leaving seat in and have a go...I'm hoping he can stay in it until we get the new car in December which will thankfully be a five door! Looking at astra/focus size car...have a corsa 2014 plate.
He is 25th centile for length at 6 months (66cm) and weight is needed to calculate. He has just had a growth spurt though

I don't recommend the Focus - although it depends on the model I suppose. But we have a focus and we are about to buy something bigger! I don't rate the focus for cabin space, there is barely any leg room for the front passenger with a rear-facing car seat behind it. Boot space isn't great either.

According to the reviews I've read, the Skoda Octavia is the best option - similar size to the Focus on the outside but more cabin space and bigger boot (must be better designed!)

What infant seat do you have btw? An isofix base (if there is one that's compatible with your seat) can make it easier to leave the seat in the car and get baby in and out.

Although I'd just get the new car ASAP if I were you Wink

I am seriously considering buying one myself!

mistermagpie · 31/07/2019 16:48

I have my four year old (only just) is still in a spin and fits fine, it does depend on the size of the child as he's quite small.

I have two spins in my car (also have a two year old) and DH has britax romers in his. I prefer mine, the spin function is a lifesaver when you have a wriggly child.

mummywingingit · 31/07/2019 17:45

We have the silver cross simplicity with isofix atm..doesn't leave a lot of room in passenger side...but enough of the passenger isn't 6ft+
We can't get the new car until December, as that's when the current one is paid off!
I would love a much bigger car ideally, but it's affording it Sad as I'm going back part time, so every penny counts...we've had an astra as a courtesy car, and I really liked it...plus I get discount as my uncle is a mechanic for them Wink
I've heard Britax are a good brand seat and affordable too...I will be looking at the Britax when we go seat shopping as open to suggestion. As long as my boy is safe...I'm not even worried if only lasts a year or so then upgrade again if it means he is safe and my back isn't at risk of completely going like it did when pregnant Confused cost a fortune on chiropractic appointments to correct and time off work!

The Britax Two Way Elite is an excellent seat, great value as it's a 25kg seat, safe as it's rear facing, and also easy to get a child in and out of. IIRC it's only suitable from 9kg so if you can hold out a bit longer with the infant seat it could be a good option to consider.

If you're anywhere near a branch of the In Car Safety Centre, they're excellent.

BertieBotts · 03/08/2019 14:29

The Joie 360 doesn't work very well in a 3-door car because the handle to spin it is located by the child's feet, so it's no good when you're rear facing (which you 100% want to do at 10 months) as you would have to sit in the back to reach the spin handle. The Britax Dualfix is often recommended in that case because the handle is on the front. It's quite short in the shell but I think you'll be OK at that size of baby. You could get the Dualfix M which will be a bit cheaper as it doesn't come with the infant insert I think (either way it's just not suitable until 3m+)
