Suggestions for car seat please

Hi,

My Mum is currently offering to purchase me an additional car seat that will stay with her in Spain for when we visit. It saves me taking my joie I-level and base with me on the flight and run the risk of it getting damaged en route in either direction.

She obviously wants to purchase a car seat that we’re going to get a lot of use out of though, as technically it will only get used once or twice a year. So something that grows with my son or has multiple stages.

I’ve been looking at some of the Joie multi-stage seats but there seems to be some worries about safety and I don’t want to just go for one of these if they aren’t going to do the actual job they’re required to.

Does anyone have any suggestions of a seat that would fit the bill?

How old is your DS and what height and weight centile does he follow?

There is only a safety concern with the Joie Every Stage fitted in forward facing mode but as rear facing is 5 times safer, you don't ever have to fit the seat forward facing until your DS is 4+ and using it as a high back booster.

Having said that, I'd recommend the Joie Stages rather than the Every Stage because it is easier to fit. It's a very good seat, rear faces to 18kg and compatible with most cars because it is seat belt fitted.

Thanks for replying tea and biscuits. He’s currently 2 months old but will be almost 5 months the first time we need to use it. He follows the 85th weight percentile.

I will check out the Joie stages now!

Another vote for the joie stages. Really easy to fit and does ff and rf. My parents use it for all DGC and find it very easy to use.

I'd definitely suggest the Stages then.

Or if you want to think long term, you could get a Joie Tilt for now which is officially an 18kg weight limit but it's small so it would probably last until about 2.5yrs if he's quite big. Then you could get a 25kg seat for the few years after that but that is quite long term thinking!
