So far have liked the Cosatto, Joie and Britax stage 1/2/3 isofix seats, but not sure if they'd be too wide?

Can you take your car and try them out for fit before you buy? Most shops will let you do this I think.

I'd always recommend rear facing seats but if you go with the 1/2/3, Joie and Britax seats are tested to a higher standard than Cosatto. Their safety standards are pretty low.

Much better than Cosatto. Cybex do additional testing like Joie, Britax etc so they test above the legal minimum standard.

We have the Kilppan Triofix Recline which is pretty narrow.

Concentrate on getting the right seat to suit your needs right now (keeping rear facing as long as possible) and then get a high back booster when needed.
The joie stages is fab if LO isn't due to hit 18kg before they're 4, then the joie trillo is a great hbb for a good price.
