Which car seat?

I know this has been done to death but any help would be appreciated.

I want a group 1/2/3 car seat that is rear facing, good safety reviews, been tested at speeds higher than current EU regulations and is less than £300.

Any recommendations?? It's a minefield Smile

Swedish Plus test is the strictest testing in the world so seats that have passed that are some of the very safest.

For £300 I'd go for the Axkid Minikid. It's excellent. 25kg ERF but then once that's outgrown (age 5/6 is a conservative estimate) you can get a very good high back booster for about £50.

Ooo thank you tea I shall have a look now.

Also good to know about Swedish Plus testing!

We've just got the axkid minikid and think it's great. Seems very safe. It is £350 though Shock

BertieBotts · 13/04/2018 09:26

Also look at ADAC tests, these are done at 40mph rather than 30mph which is the legal minimum. I'm not sure anyone else test at higher speeds because the forces become too unpredictable. The site is in German but google chrome will translate it for you.

I'm not sure there are any 1/2/3 RF seats so I agree with tea to look for one to 25kg and then get a good booster after that, and budget about £50 for it.

teaandbiscuitsforme · 13/04/2018 10:29

Sorry the Minikid probably is slightly more than £300. I think I tell DH £300 to keep him a bit quieter Grin

Hereshopingforimprovement · 13/04/2018 10:31

Another recommendation for the axkid minikid.

Hereshopingforimprovement · 13/04/2018 10:34

It's £350 but of you really can't go over £300 the axkid move is very similar.

You could try phoning your local Volvo garage - I know car seats are listed as an extra when buying a car, so I'm sure they could sell you one.

link done properly this time

beenandgoneandbackagain · 13/04/2018 10:49

I've checked the price of the Volvo seat - it's £270 so within your budget.

teaandbiscuitsforme · 13/04/2018 10:54

The Volvo seat is the Britax Max Way rebranded. It's cheaper if you buy it as a Britax. It's a really good seat but the shell isn't a long lasting as the Britax Two Way Elite which is £185 so it tends to get recommended more.

teaandbiscuitsforme · 13/04/2018 12:45

I've just seen this on another site - it lists all the plus tested car seats.

Britax 2 way elite from in car safety centre

losingitovermilestones · 13/04/2018 12:48

Recaro- they design seats for aircraft and formula 1 cars so super safe and experienced! The seat was around £300 but the travel system was £700 so we got that. Seat spins 360°, converts from newborn through to age 4, our DD loves it in there and sleeps through every car journey (longest 4 hours!).

losingitovermilestones · 13/04/2018 12:49

Also that includes the isofix base

readyforapummelling · 13/04/2018 21:23

Thanks for all the recommendations, I have ordered an Axkid. It is £50 over budget but she is going to be using it until she is 4 so I can justify the spend.

I'm just relieved to have found a rear facing, I have read about it and it looks like it's worth the cash.

Thank you for all the replies Smile.

Good choice. For anyone else who hasn't bought yet, I also recommend the Britax Two Way Elite as mentioned by PPs. I reckon it's as good as the Axkid (can also forward face when needed) and it's a fair bit cheaper.

teaandbiscuitsforme · 14/04/2018 04:53

Excellent choice ready! Smile

Watch the installation video a few times on YouTube before you give it a go (and have it on your phone out at the car with you!). If you want to check it's properly installed, you can take some photos or a video of it's easier and post them on the favebook group 'car seat advice uk' and one of the specialists will check the fit for you.
