Swivel car seat from birth

Has anyone used a group 0 - 1 car seat that swivels from birth? One of the ones that doesn’t fit in a travel system but just stays in the car? I want one as think it’s best for my back, not to have to lean in and twist to get them in and out but also not to have option of carrying them around in car seat. I’m worried though as some reviews say their head flops forward a bit? So just wanting to know from anyone who has experience. Thanks

Anything that is birth-18kg is going to have sone compromises on the fit for a newborn baby. For example they are more upright than an infant carrier which would explain the head flop. There's a great car seat advice Facebook group where you could find more reliable advice though.

Cybex sirona is pretty good. I've not used it from birth but I think it's suitable from birth. It has a lie flatter position and then a more upright position. Mothercare stock them.

We have a britax dualfix. It's fab, recline is good.

JudgementalSquirrel · 09/01/2018 13:28

We used the Britax dualfix. Great car seat and have just had to replace it as DD is now too tall for it. Being able to spin it around was a godsend for my back.

We used the Cybex Sirona from birth with the infant insert and it is great. DD sit rear facing in it now at nearly 2. It did mean that she woke up when I got her out of the car though when she was tiny. But that was just training for later on.

It is especially good if trying to get a toddler doing her best planking into it.

I’ve got a joie 360 which I love because of my back. I had a travel system though so didn’t use it from birth but I think you can as it came with a lot of inserts I never used.

We use a cybex sirona also with a newborn insert for our second child. I had a car seat/ travel system for our first but hated the straps (they got twisted all the time and you had to take the whole thing apart to fix), baby's head was always flopping forward and the thing was bloody heavy even with a tiny baby in. I used it for the first month with our second but remembered how much I hated it and got the cybex which is so much nicer- it's got two settings so you can recline it quite a lot so the head doesn't flop forward. My 3 yo is still very comfortable in his so it's a good investment.
The only downside is not being able to take baby and car seat out to put in a trolley or go to a class, but I use a sling instead which works fine.

I don't think the Sirona spins on the new models.

I've got a Britax Dualfix and have used it with a newborn a few times. It's actually our toddlers seat and the baby has a Cybex Aton but there's been a few times I've needed to use and its been great. No head flopping and super comfy, not like some of the Maxi Cosi's.

If there'd have been a bigger gap between my 2 then I'd have just used the dualfix from birth with the youngest

We have a Nuna rebl. I love it, I find using the one in mums car (that doesn't spin) a real pain with a heavy 2 year old.

People said I'd miss not being able to click the car seat on the pram chassis, or carry dd in the car seat. But I'd had a c section, I doubt I could have carried the car seat and nearly 9 lbs of baby for a while anyway!

The only thing I didn't like was that even though there are 7 recline settings, when dd was newborn I didn't feel like it reclined enough. She always seemed comfy though, and the shoulder straps are quite padded, if positioned right over her shoulders they came under her chin which stopped her head falling forwards.

She's very tall for her age and still seems comfy rear facing. I think we'lll definitely get our moneys worth out of it too, there is still lots of growing room.

Another thing is Nunas customer service, I found them amazing when about a year ago, the company - Which, found that the first car seat they made didn't pass their levels of testing. It passed all the EU regs etc but when tested at higher speeds, in an impact the seat unit came away from the base. I contacted Nuna who were fab. They had already designed a second model which did pass the higher testing. They offered to deliver a brand new car seat (the new model) and collect the old one (completely free of charge), or offer me a full refund for me to buy something else. We got the new one because I couldn't find anything I liked as much.

We had a Jane matrix from birth that spins in the i sofix base. it is removable and also lay flat or sir upright. That went up to 10kg flat and 13 upright. As she started to get to the upper limit we got a Joie spin for the main car. It's great and is so much easier than the normal Joie seat we have in the other car.

gandalfspants · 09/01/2018 17:17

We have the Recaro Zero 1. We didn't use it from birth (it wasn't out then), but I think I would be happy to in retrospect.

We had a carrier car seat and got some head flop anyway :/

My only consideration against would be that she did often fall asleep on journeys and it was useful (if back breaking) to be able to lift the whole thing out without waking her.

Flyingfruit · 10/01/2018 16:33

Thank you for your replies everyone. I’m in 2 minds about what to do. I don’t want to make the baby uncomfortable but for my own sake I think not being able to lift the seat would be a big advantage.

I hated the carry car seat it was awful for my back even when dd was tiny. Don’t think you’ll miss it!

KatharinaRosalie · 11/01/2018 15:08

Sirona here as well, and used it pretty much from birth as DC2 hated the baby seat anywy. Was much more comfortable in Sirona.

Flyingfruit · 11/01/2018 18:34

Does the Sirona spin?
