Charged for car seat on Easyjet

Hi, just having a moan really but I’d always heard how Easyjet make it easy for families by taking car seats in the hold for free. BUT have phoned to check and since ds is now 5 I will have to pay for an extra hold item - over £70 return in this case. I can see why they have an age limit for some things but there is no way a car seat becomes optional once a child turns 5! Will look into alternative airlines to see if any better Sad

I believe side impacts form a very small proportion of accidents (looking for stats). But I guess it depends how risk averse you are.

Uptheduffy · 11/11/2017 11:47

It’s a dilemma. This is why I normally take the boat when I have dcs with me Sad
I was planning to bring the seat in the box it was delivered in so assume would be ok-ish in the hold.

I’ve flown with DD since she was 4 months and generally there is a solution. But then I don’t tend to panic about much.

prettyprettyprettyprettyghoul · 11/11/2017 12:01

Why won’t they let you use the seat on the plane?

I’ve done that plenty of times, but granted my DS was a lot younger (2.5y last time)

prettyprettyprettyprettyghoul · 11/11/2017 12:08

This suggests you can use a car seat on board, however it would need to be a harness seat, not booster which uses your car seat belt.

My child is too big for a harness seat now and most over 5s whom this policy will affect will also be too big.

prettyprettyprettyprettyghoul · 11/11/2017 13:01

Ahhhh... in Australia (my home country) you can get booster seats with harnesses for children right the way up to 8-10yr, depending on height.

That’s certainly what we will be looking for when DS outgrows his 0-4 seat.

TittyGolightly · 11/11/2017 13:04

Harnesses are a really bad idea for forward facing children. Massive neck injuries possible when shoulders are pinned back and the head is thrown forward.

We flew to Majorca with Jet2 in May this year when our youngest child had just turned 5. We checked her Joie Stages rear facing seat into the hold for free, no questions asked as to why we were taking a big car seat for a 5 year old (she’s small for her age, hence the fact she’s rear facing in the Stages because she’s under 18kg).

Hmm. I live near the airport maybe I should go out and just ask at the desk.

Sorry to resurrect this discussion, has anyone got any more info/had experience of this recently? Wondering whether the staff on the ground are actually charging for the carseats for over 5’s or not. Seems such a ridiculous policy!

Sorry to jump on this post... But I'm traveling with easyjet in September with a 3 year old and two month old. Is it two items per child I get to take for free? Or just two items for our group?

Splot81 · 08/03/2018 20:00

2 items per child Lightning88

Lightning88 · 08/03/2018 20:45

Thank you Splot81 :)
That's a relief.

Just found this thread when I searched for easyJet carseat... we're due to fly to Manchester on Saturday with two six year olds and yes I can confirm they're expecting us to pay to take our car seats. It's 200 Swiss Francs, more than the price of their tickets. I have an old group 2/3 seat that's still legal for DD2 to use and DD3 has just gone up to the weight for a group 3 so we've went out and bought one. It's not ideal but it will do for 5 days. I'll be trying as hard as I can not to use them again.

mummymermaid · 28/05/2018 09:48

I just got told the same by EasyJet, that we have to pay price of an extra luggage to take a booster seat with us! So in our case £50! I could get a new seat for that price!

itsgood2talk · 28/05/2018 11:18

We flew with easyJet last month and the month before and we're not asked to pay to check in a car seat for our 5 year old we just showed boarding pass and they took it for free!

NearlySchoolTimeAgain · 04/02/2019 20:11

Anyone done this lately?

Website seems clear that it’s free for a child.
