Stage 1 car seat

The time has come to move DS from his infant carrier car seat. He is 16 months.

I would like a forward facing isofix seat. I don't want the maxi cosi pebble because we would need a new base too and the total price is ridiculous. It definitely needs to be isofix for ease of moving to grandparents car from time to time.

Any recommendations?

I don't want ERF. I have read everything . I know the pros and cons and I'm clear I don't want ERF. I know how threads on here can sometimes go, so can I politely ask not to be told off for not ERF.Smile

It's a while since we bought one so no recommendation, but when we were looking we paid the £1 trial price for membership to Which (you can cancel at any time so no further cost) and then could read all their reviews, including their extended safety tests.

We have the maxi cosi tobi. It attaches with the seatbelt but is really easy. It can be tilted back for naps too.

Thanks. I wonder if Which has done new tests. A lot of models seem to have changed recently. Good idea.

What I'd like is something like the Tobi but isofix. My mum is confident doing isofix and there is no risk of one of the other kids unclipping it accidentally (has happened with the cabriofix base). Thanks though . Worth bearing in mind

I have just got the maxi cosi axiss it is rear and forward facing and it turns to the side to get the child out easily. But from what I could see that was the cheapest isofix one and it was £350!!

We have a kiddy guardian fix which we've been very happy with. It's isofix but uses seatbelt and an impact cushion instead of harness which spreads the force more effectively in an impact. Concorde do a similar one too

Furchester · 12/09/2015 23:00

And it converts to a HBB so hopefully is the only one you'll need

woodwaj · 14/09/2015 08:36

I wasn't too keen on the look of the impact cushion because it's the only option to use it if the child hates it i could see a few problems arising. It just looked so constricting!

We bought this for our DGS when he was 2.5 - (DD chose after much reearch)- he loves it.

We've had two [car stolen Sad ] Britax Isofix stage 1 seats and I highly recommend them.
www.kiddicare.com/p/Britax_Duo_Plus_Car_Seat_Black_Thunder.htm

They supposedly go up to age 4 but because the Isofix base is so large it pushes the child closer to the front seats. If you have a long legged driver in the front then you really have to put the child behind the passenger seat or face the prospect of small feet around your ears.....

Sockattack · 14/09/2015 09:23

I don't understand what's brought you to decide against ERF. The most expensive forward facing seat won't perform better than the cheapest £60 rear facing seat.

If I was going to look at FF then I'd avoid the impact shield seats. There are concerns about the abdominal load which the dummies don't have sensors for yet.
Also id be wanting isofix, leg and top tethers.

Use your infant seat til its fully outgrown too.

Velvet1973 · 15/09/2015 10:14

After doing my own research into ff or rf there is absolutely no way my child will ever be forward facing before he is 4. We've got the cybex sirona which is lovely and he is very comfy and very safe in it. We liked it so much we did buy another one for my husbands car despite initially saying we were going to buy a cheaper rear facing seat.
