Is it safe to have high back booster on front seat?

And would you need to deactivate the airbag or is that just for the rear facing car seats?

Ideally children should travel in the back of the car as it's safer if in an accident. They are furthest away from the most likely point of impact if you were in a head on accident.

Airbags are designed for adults so a child sitting in the front of a car in whatever seat is likely to be injured by an airbag going off. Even with the seat pushed as far back as it will go.

You have to be careful when moving the seat back as far as it will go. You need to make sure that you don't push the seat back further than the seatbelt anchorage point - if the seatbelt has to go back towards the rear of the car to then feed forward into the red shoulder guide of the high backed booster then it won't work properly.

I occasionally put my 9 and 6 year olds in the front on high backed boosters, but it's not an everyday occurrence. I do switch the airbag off, but can't move the seat any further back because DD2's ERF seat is behind it.

A couple of friends have 6 year olds who get travel sick, so they sit in the front every time they go in the car.

Hmm, it would be only occasionally but wouldn't want to risk it if it's dodgy. Will see how far back I can get the seat. Is there guidance as to how far back it's safe to have them with air bag or is it better to switch the air bag off? Is switching the air bag off really ok as this makes me nervous and feels like they would be even less safe!

I think the advice is to switch the airbag off if you 're using a rear facing car seat in the front - the airbag would push the child 's face into the back of the passenger seat. The advice for forward facing seats is to push the passenger seat back, but leave the airbag on - it would offer some protection without the full force of the inflating airbag injuring the child

Aah that makes sense re: airbags, thanks for that. So basically as a rare / one off it would be ok, but not as safe as in the back seat.
