I'm surprised it's only 74% to be honest - of all of my friends with children I only know of 2 (plus me obviously ) who rearfaced past 1

My friends all had babies before me so ff after 9 months but I now a few folk now who have bought ERF.

A 13 kg 9 month old would be massive!, I haven't gone extended rear facing but used my infant car seat until they were properly growing out if it which was closer to 16 months and I have had big kids.

I do find the Sweden statistics interesting but I wonder if it is in part because the cars are safer - more volvos's and less fiats. It would be interesting to see the comparison of adult injuries too.

I only learned about ERF seats from MN, and only when I started researching the next seat for dd (now three). I know one person who also ERFs, and it was me that told her about it.

Everyone else I know turns their little ones forward facing once they get to 9 months (some, sadly, do it earlier).

ERF is so so under promoted, and the seats are so so expensive (due to lack of demand due to people simply.not kniwing they exist), that the only thing that will make ERF the norm in the UK is a law change.

I think it's so sad that parents turn forward facing so early without truly knowing the dangers. Even when you try and have a reasoned discussion and talk about the statistics and why they're not interested. Once they've made the purchase of the 2nd car seat they'll talk themselves into the belief that their kids are just as safe.
It seems ridiculous as well that a sales assistant in a baby shop is an "expert" on car safety. We should have more specialist retailers with fully trained experts to give proper advice.
