just wondering if mothercare infant carriers are made by dorel the same company that makes maxi cosi and if so would it fit onto something like a quinny frame or anything that a maxi cosi would fit onto?

Nope not any more. But even when they were they didn't have the same connectors. Those maxi cosi seats are too expensive money spinning Grin for them to put the connectors on a cheap own brand seat!

oh well it makes sense I suppose!!!!

If you want a compatible car seat/buggy you're best off looking for a deal. I just had a car seat which was not compatible (the good old Dorel made mothercare seat :)) and just took DS out of it and put him in the buggy, he soon went back to sleep as we walked around.

You need to be careful about cheaper car seats these days, the ones made by team tex/nania/babystart are really basic quality and I would not trust them. I'm not sure if they make the Mothercare seat or not. It's a shame because like I said, when I had DS the basic mothercare seat WAS made by Dorel and I was very happy with it but I wouldn't touch the cheaper ones now. It can be hard to tell because they trade under too many names, but look at any seat in person and watch out for these kind of warning signs:

  • The belt guide at the back of a rear facing seat looks thin and flimsy
  • Other belt guides don't have a lot of room to get the belt into, or they have rough/unfinished edges
  • The seat looks shallow with not much side impact protection
  • Material for the seat cover is shiny and cheap looking
  • The straps are not tightened by a one-pull strap at the bottom of the seat, but with rucksack-style tighteners on each shoulder strap
  • The seat seems very much cheaper than other seats in the same age category, and it's not because of a special offer. (This is especially suspicious for an expensive car seat category which is usually those which include a rear facing stage)

OTOH the basic MC seat seems to have changed from when I last saw it. It may be worth viewing it in store and seeing what the stamp is on the underside, perhaps they have gone back to a more reputable company.

It used to work in reverse - I had a Mothercare MyChoice 4 wheeler pram and you could use a Maxi Cosi Cabriofix or Pebble directly on the chassis, no adapters required. The MyChoice chassis was made by Dorel, it was really good quality and loads better than the Expedior that they seem to have replaced it with.

Dorel also make Safety 1st baby goods. When we were in Disneyland Paris earlier in the year I saw a MyChoice chassis, but with no Mothercare branding on it, it was all badged as Safety 1st.

Also totally agree with BertieBotts on the car seat advice - avoid the cheap ones!

Was that the very cheapest one frisso? I had one for DS (six next month) and it didnt have any connectors at all. But you could buy mothercare travel systems with their own seat so perhaps those were built the same.

IIRC it was the beginning of the craze/idea that the cabriofix would be compatible with almost every pram on the market. Previous to this you only had the graco type travel systems.
