Britax Kidfix or Britax Evolva for a four-year old?

It has just dawned on me that the reason DS is no longer comfortable in his car seat is not because I am too lazy to adjust it but because he is nearly four and very tall for his age. So, now I've mustered enough brain cells to work that one out...

DD has a Britax Evolva which I have been very happy with and is supposed to go to 135cm. I can get one for about £80. Kidfix gets good reviews on here and looks comfy, which I caan find for about £100 ish.

Is there a reason for me to spend £20more and get the kidfix?

We got the kiddi fix from halfords about 3 weeks ago. I think it was about £89. Ds loves it. They fitted it and from recollection the isofix folds away and the seat can be used without if need be.
It's sort of sprung so it acts as a shock absorber in an accident.

I agree that it nice having isofix and only needing the seatbelt to strap ds in not secure the seat.

Yes kidfix can be used without isofix too.
We need several seats regularly though so got the adventure in addition for cars without isofix and a spare for play dates

That's the non isofix version. Reckon you could get that cheaper to be honest

LaTrucha · 22/02/2014 08:30

So the one you linked to has the base included? Sorry to be so dense but I don't want to get the wrong thing (as it appears I did last time with the Evolva)

La trucha - none of these have "bases" so to speak. The kid plus is completely non isofix. The kidfix has retractable isofix connections.

Does your car have isofix connectors built in? If yes get the kidfix. If no get the kidplus

LaTrucha · 22/02/2014 08:34

No we don't have anything in the car. Our car is from the ice age.

Thank you all by the way! I'll change the Evolva to three point harness today. I have just watched the video of how to do it.

Mine too!!

crashbangboom · 22/02/2014 08:39

If you car doesn't have isofix then just get an adventure or the kidplus you linked to.

crashbangboom · 22/02/2014 08:40

Or use the evolva in high backed booster mode.

LaTrucha · 22/02/2014 09:05

Thanks very much again. I had assumed that you got an isofix base for child car seats as you do with baby seats. That's why I have been so confused!

Thanks very much again.

I find it frustrating that you try to do the right thing, as with the Evolva, which lots of people I know have as they think it is really safe, and then you find out it is not the safest.

It also gets me that lots of people are driving around with four-year olds in booster seats and tey probably think that that is safe too.

harumph.
