We have a Skoda Fabia 1.2 (v small car) and need to replace our DDs car seat asap she is age 2 and approx 11kg and is also is prone to pulling her arms out of the straps and today for the first time even managed to unclip the actual seat belt from the buckle at the base Shock although she is unable to get out of her carseat as she is clipped in by the harness. I am at a loss over how much to spend or which one to go for. I need a car seat she cannot get out of I am guessing group 1.

Any suggestions we need to order asap as taking a long driving trip next week so have to but in next couple of days

You can buy a special harness that covers the straps to prevent them wriggling out. I saw one today in Halfords (in the child seat section)..I'll have a Google for you.

this one isn't the same as the one I saw today, but it will do the job Grin

Kiddy car seat. Amazing, great in small cars

ooh thanks for that I will have to check it out in halfords to see ow easy it would be for her to open. we still need to replace the car seat anyway as the buckle has become a bit sticky in past couple of days and I dont trust the seat anymore

this is the Halfords one. It looks very secure!

I also have a Fabia and a wriggly (nearly) 2 year old. I bought an "Anti Escape Harness" that goes in her
Group 1 seat. It car from Halfords. It works most of the time.

The one we have is the one amistillsexy linked to.

Oh just read the post about replacing the car seat. I've taken mine apart lots of times and washed the straps, covers, etc, and soaked the buckles to get rid of the encrusted food that's collected. They always came up very well, so you could try that before shelling out for a new seat!

Halfords also have a very comprehensive guide to which car seat you should buy for your child's height and weight.

If your DD is too tall/heavy for a five point harness, and needing a three point instead, you can get covers for the clips so that they can't unclip the seatbelt...just a mo...

here you go

We use one with a bolster - kiddy energy pro (I think)

glitterbird · 21/07/2013 22:54

thanks for all the tips everyone. When I said the buckle was sticky I meant it was not just unclean but when you put the pins in it pops out unless you really push the button up so there is a risk if in a hurry of thinking its locked when it actually isn't. It took me 8 or 9 goes yesterday morning before I managed to get it to clip in and lock properly. But will give it a proper clean tomorrow as there is probably something wedged inside making it get stuck
