anybody?

does anyone have which? and can give me JUST the safety ratings of the seats, not the overall rating?

I can look for you hold on...

goldmedalmother · 05/08/2012 21:38

Kiddy Energy Pro looks to be the highest rated.

thisisyesterday · 05/08/2012 21:48

that's goldmedal

what's the top scoring one that doesn't have an impact cushion?

The Kidfix is the safest by a long margin, have you looked at the kidfix SICT? It's got advanced side impact protection :) as long as you haven't got to get 3 across the back!

BertieBotts · 06/08/2012 00:34

The impact shield on those kind of seats isn't used past 18kg anyway - it can be removed from 15kg.

thisisyesterday · 06/08/2012 08:52

should have said, can't have isofix

i looked at the sict seats, but read a few reviews saying that the non-isofix ones lean from side to side because they're top heavy, so that put me off a bit!

had looked at the kid plus though

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 06/08/2012 08:53

i wonder if they're cheaper via volvo, like the multi-tech is? i might look into that!

OP posts:
goldmedalmother · 06/08/2012 10:04

Most of the impact shield seats are sold without the impact shields at a lower price for the Group 2/3 phase. So don't pay extra for the impact shield ones (used in Group 1 only) as it'll be a waste.

Yes to clarify, the Kiddy one is the highest rated overall, but not necessarily top on safety (that said it will score very highly on that to be there as top best buy).

Despite the naff name they are excellent seats.

Can't go far wrong with Britax either.

thisisyesterday · 06/08/2012 10:07

do they give results JUST for the safety part? that's what I'm after. which group 2/3 comes out top just for the safety bit?

I'm not generally a fan of Which? because I've seen the safest seats not get the best buy thing just because they don't have washable covers, or have too many steps to fit Confused but I struggled to find any other safety info out there

I do have a tendency to over-think these things though Grin

Yes if you have the full subscription you can see the results in each testing category. Libraries usually have a full subscription if you don't want to pay for it.

Britax Adventure is half price in a lot of places now in the last year's colours. I think I might go for that one as DS is growing out if his group 1.

thisisyesterday · 06/08/2012 10:12

ahh well the adventure is what we have at the moment Grin

but wondering if there is something even safer!

OP posts:
MegMogAndOwl · 06/08/2012 15:36

The volvo (kid plus) is the only one they've given 5 stars to for overall safety

There's quite a few with 4 stars,

Maxi cosi rodi air protect
Cyber solution X
Silver cross navigator
Kiddy discovery pro
Recaro milano
Britax kid plus sict
Maxi cosi rodi xp
Maxi cosi rodi xr
Besafe izi up
Concord lift evo pt
Britax kid plus

I'm not sure why the Volvo got 5 stars but the britax only got 4, I thought the Volvo one was just a britax with a Volvo badge?

BertieBotts · 06/08/2012 16:04

Is it good? I'm wavering between that and the Graco Logical L. But will probably go for the Adventure since it's so cheap.

thisisyesterday · 06/08/2012 18:23

hmm that is odd. I wonder if it's to do with user manual or something, if they're slightly different??

maybe you could contact them and ask for us? Grin

i think i will def get the kid plus. thank you.

I had looked at the kiddy discovery pro, which I like because it has the extendable leg part which is really useful as DS1 has quite long legs and I think it would be really comfy for him.

unfortunately they seem to have discontinued it as I can't find it for sale anywhere!

(one day I really will learn to read everyhing and do one post instead of 3)

bertie do you mean is the adventure good? if so then yes, we've been really pleased with it. the headrest is nice and DS1 can actually sleep quite comfortably in it (not that he sleeps often) as his head just leans nicely onto the side.
The only thing I will say about it is that the seat isn't very padded and after a couple of years use it's completely flat. that said, DS1 says it's comfy
We originally got it as it was the only one that would fit across the back next to out ERF seats because it didn't have arms on it- we had a graco junior maxi something or other before that which I was also really pleased with!

ooh and I read somewhere, but now can't find it to back this up, that the lighter the seat is the better because if you are in a crash then unless you have an isofix seat the whole seat will go forward with the child. so if the seat is heavy obviously they have a bigger weight behind them potentially pushing them forward.
the adventure is only 3.something kg which is one of the lightest on the market

OP posts:
BertieBotts · 06/08/2012 18:55

Light is good. I don't drive myself so useful to know. Also the safety aspect of course. The graco is 4.5kilos so quite a bit more. Thanks for the info :)

Grin yes have looked at the izi up too, as we already have an izi combi x2 for our youngest, and I note it got 4stars from Which?

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 06/08/2012 21:22

I am mainly worried about rear-end shunts (high speed ones) but nowhere seems to do a rear-end crash test, so it's hard to find out what is safest.

My other contender is the Diono/sunshine kids Monterey

We have maxi-cosy air protects as couldn't fit kid fix in car any longer as it hit the side of the car. There is a elastic clip thing that hooks onto the head rests in the car so you don't have to strap it in when dc are not in the car. Kids find them very comfy.
