Maxi Cosi Tobi or Pearl or Axis....

Why cannot brand just let me chose between them rather than several products from each brand for each stage?!

I have the MC Family Fix base. DH a can't get his head around anything other than a Pearl as 'we have the base already'. I think it looks really small in comparison to the Tobi and Axis.

Does anyone have any experience of any of these, positive and negative?

Not looking to debate RF/FF, I am a keen RF-er, but need to look at all the options to be able to arm myself for a debate with DH Smile

Tell your DH he is being sucked in by the marketing - that is exactly why they want you to buy the base Grin

Also, if you have another baby before DC1 grows out of the Pearl, you will have to buy another base anyway. So it's not a great long term choice TBH.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 03/08/2012 13:59

I'd go with the Axis. I've know too many people with the Tobi who've reported escaping toddlers due to them being able to get their arms out (several of my friends and I've read it a lot of times on here). We've had the Priorifix which is fantastic, and now have the Ferofix (neither of which use the base)

Flog the base on ebay and get which ever car seat you want - It'll probably be cheaper in the long run.

I have the Axiss and find the swivel really useful now I'm pregnant. It means I can lift dd in and do up the harness with a straight back. She seems v happy in it and it tilts back if she wants to sleep.

I looked a extended rear facing because it's safer but we tried one in the States and didn't think it fastened as securely, it didn't give enough leg room for the front seat or the child and I struggled to lift and strap dd in even without being pregnant. She didn't like being tipped so far back either and screamed and struggled to sit more upright. there may be better models out there, we hired it so I don't know what brand it was.

Thanks all! Think I am pretty persuaded with the Axis TBH - as Jareth says, all the Tobi reviews seem to suggest the escaping arms is a common issue.

I will keep out family fix base as fingers crossed we will have a second DC and use that (and the Pebble!) again. My argument to DH was that unless our children are going to be over 4 years apart then we would need another base :)

One final question - I can find really good deals on the Axis online (£170 as opposed to £220) - are they easy to fit?

I got mine from Halfords, we paid £170, had it delivered free to store and they fitted it for free. It is incredibly easy to fit though (and my childminder uses mine so I transfer it to her car and back to mine again every single day).

Axiss is great Dd1 age 4 on 95 centile has just grown out of it I'm devestated but Dd2 will be in it soon I love the swivel and it reclines quite a lot to

mememummy · 03/08/2012 17:05

Really easy to fit takes about 2 mins and feels really secure x

lagoonhaze · 03/08/2012 17:54

Wait til autumn if poss a RF seat is coming out for the family fix base apparently

vallinnapod · 03/08/2012 20:23

Ohhh, interesting Lagoon - any further info?

DS still has about an inch above his head but is getting quite snug across his shoulders!

I read it on a rearfacing Facebook group or here. Worth asking maxi cosi. When you say snug across shoulders do you have a coat or jumper on?

vallinnapod · 04/08/2012 19:30

Nope, just a tall baby. He's 99 percentile for height but at last weigh in was 9.1kg so in weight range. I'd rather he was snug (though not uncomfy) than rattling around in a bigger seat.

I'd avoid all 3 personally, although the Axiss swivel is a hugely useful function! The Axiss isn't as easy to fit as the other seats, but the tobi harness is poorly designed and the pearl and familyfix did really poorly in higher impact crash testing! Have you looked at the Britax King Plus? It's really easy to fit, did really well in crash testing, nice and snug, well padded - the only thing it's lacking is the swivel, it just depends how important that funtion is to you :)
