The Kiddy guardian pro?

Does anybody have a Kiddy Guardian pro? How good are they? Does the lap pad work at keeping child in the seat?

We do. It's very very good indeed. DS has always been secure behind the impact cushion and he's very comfy in it. DH was sceptical until we put DS in the demo one in the shop and he was so secure with the belt done up that DH was converted instantly.

frustratedpants · 31/07/2012 19:00

pascha could your ds get out of it if he was so enclined ?

He's never tried but I would say not. He's just so comfy the idea has never occurred to him. He feels very snugly held in.

Pascha · 01/08/2012 12:32

Pic on my profile if you want to see him in it.

SmallWhiteWine · 01/08/2012 12:35

We've had it for 18 months/2 years or so now. DD now using it as a HBB, as she's 4, and it's been a good buy.

Flyingwithoutwings · 01/08/2012 15:58

Yep, have one and had the Infinity Pro before that.
Can't recommend enough, so much safer than a 3 / 5 point harness.
Easy and light to move between cars. Because you aren't using the seat belt to secure the seat in, it's pretty impossible to fit incorrectly.
DS is so comfortable and "free" in it that it makes long journeys a breeze.

Forget the price, these are worth every penny!

Flyingwithoutwings · 01/08/2012 16:01

If you have child in front seat, and front seat is far back, they CAN undo it. But DS has had it drummed into him that he's only allowed to do it when we've reached our destination and mummy / daddy says he can.
He's 3 and understands this and it's never been an issue.
When he's in the back he can't undo it.

(we have a family car and a sports car so hence the different seat positions Wink)

Hello,

I've signed up to Mumsnet just to comment on this thread; We were in a car crash last year, with my daughter in her Kiddy Guardian Pro in the back seat. We were hit head-on at approximately 40mph, I suffered some rib bruising, my partner had whiplash and consequent neck injuries that will last 2 to 3 years, and my daughter, who was 22 months at the time, came out without a scratch.

Obviously I can't compare the performance to any other car seat, but our Kiddy seat very probably saved her life, and certainly her health. We bought a replacement the next day.

The other great thing about the Kiddy seats is that, due to the manner of their fitting, you can swap them between cars very easily without the concern of mis-fitting them that you have with traditional car seats.

Hope that helps with your decision.

We have the Comfort Pro and I really like it though we only began using it when ds was 2 or 3, so I don't know how it functions with smaller children.

It's very similar to the Guardian I think - perhaps the previous model.

I did find ds got annoyed with the cushion though, and didn't always want to wear it. That's the only down side really. I have bought new covers for it to use with dc3.

Flyingwithoutwings · 01/08/2012 18:56

My DS loves to sleep using the cushion as a.. Cushion! Wink
I'm gutted that he'll grow out of the impact cushion within the next 6 months. Sad

I think it takes a bit of getting used too if they are a little older. My DS was happy with it after a couple of journeys at a young age.

i Have the Mamas and Papas version and after having car seat since they became law and before (I was a CM now a nanny, but provide my own seats, my car my responsibility)

It has got to be the best seats Ive ever had.

And so easy to take out at weekends.

kefybaby · 01/08/2012 19:12

We have 2 (one to use with friends of DD and when other people give DD a lift as, as it was already mentioned, it is easily moved between cars). We are very happy with it and would recommend it. I like the fact that it can be used over a number of years. DD is very comfy in it!

nancerama · 01/08/2012 19:23

We have a similar style of seat supplied by BMW. It's excellent and I would recommend it to anyone. The first time we put DS in it, he howled and didn't like the bulky cushion at all. DH was all for taking it back, but we tried it again the following day and he wasn't bothered at all.

Now the minute we put him in the car he rests his head on the cushion and drops off to sleep. Magic!

allyflo77 · 01/08/2012 19:33

We have two and they are great. My little boy is an escape artist but could not get out until recently when he has discovered he can reach to undo the seat belt but as another post said, he understands that it is not to be touched until we have parked and he is told he can undo it.
Another point to be aware of ....if you do have an accident it can be replaced free of charge. This is taken from the kiddy website
" Can I still use the child safety car seat after an accident? What must I look out for?

If you are involved in an accident with the car seat installed in the vehicle, it is imperative that it is inspected by the manufacturer if you have any intention to use it again. It could be cracked or damaged in a way, which at first glance is not visible. But, providing you send us the kiddy car seat involved to our HQ in Germany with a copy of the Police Accident Report, we will replace that seat with a new one of the same retail value, FREE OF CHARGE! This service is available to consumers in of kiddy in the UK, Germany, Austria and France."

Flyingwithoutwings · 01/08/2012 22:14

Wow didn't know that, what a fantastic thing to do. Hopefully none of us will need that service but that is such a responsible thing to do.

I'm going to be the lone voice of dissent, I'm afraid, as my toddler could escape from his.

I think we had the Infinity Pro, it was great in all the ways others mention, easy to fit, move between cars etc. But, my then-17mo managed to escape from it three times in one week (twice in one day, the second time he actually ended up standing up in the back Shock).

I emailed Kiddy, who said that they recommend that someone sits in the back with the child to ensure they don't push the cushion off. Err, not really practical. So I sent it back and they refunded me.

There are a few reports of this if you look at the Which? reviews.

I was convinced of it's worth in a crash, but if your child can escape from it then it's not much use, is it?

I now have an extended rear facing seat with a five-point harness and a Five Point Plus to stop him from escaping from that (I have a little Houdini!).

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 01/08/2012 22:33

Same as princely am afraid. Like the seat, bought it because of the safety record and love the portability of it BUT have had big problems some nights actually getting DD (now2.8) into it. The problem we've had is that if she doesn't want to be strapped in, she can push the 'bar' off and it's very hard to hold back a struggling toddler, hold the bar in place and thread the seatbelt through and secure it. We have had a couple of instances where she has been in the process of having a tantrum about being strapped in, and has managed to wiggle free of the seat and be totally unsecured in the back of the car!!!
If anyone has any suggestions on how to avoid this, it would be very helpful as I do want the seat to work for us, but based on our experience so far, i probably wouldn't buy one for subsequent DCsSad.
