Lie flat seats - unsure what to do

I have a maxi cosi cabriofix for my 7wk old and I'm beginning to think it's unsuitable - we don't do much driving on a regular basis but when we do it can be quite long journeys, and I didn't know about the whole lie-flat thing, but it makes sense to me. She used to be fine in the cabriofix but she's quite a big baby (14lbs at 7wks) and as time goes on, seems to hate the carseat and especially has trouble pooping whilst in it! It's now to the point where she screams pretty much the whole time she's in it, stops the second she's lifted out and has a massive poo with relief! The carbiofix fits on my babylogger buggy but to be honest, the carseat actually never leaves the car we find! so it's not important that the replacement is uncompatible.

Only trouble is she doesn't much like being laid flat on her back either! However, at least she can poop like that?

I like the idea of the jane matrix if it can do lie flat and sit up...anybody have one and likes/dislikes it? Or anybody have another lie flat seat to recommend?

I only used the car seat in the car, even though I could have bought a connector for the buggy. Ds was always taken out of the car seat and put in the buggy. We didn't have a carrycot attachment for the buggy either (Mountain Buggy). On 'long' journeys we made sure that we stopped regularly and again took him out of his car seat because of the advice - and he was also large and long, but we managed to keep him in the bucket-style seat until 9 mo when we found a rear facing one that would later turn round.

We do stop for her, but now she just won't tolerate being in it for 10minutes, she's learnt what it all means I think!? I think it's the length of her that's the problem, it sort of squidges her up!

Lie flat seats aren't really as safe as rfing seats - youtube has some of lie flat seats that would make your hair curl!

I (personally) would only buy one if I had a prem baby who couldn't tolerate a rfing car seat but wasn't unwell enough to still be in SCBU/NICU and then I would only use it when strictly necessary. I would never buy one for a healthy term infant if there were other options (sorry!).

If you wanted a bigger infant carrier then a Britax Baby Safe SHR II has a much longer back (20" to Maxi-Cosi Cabrio Fix's 16"). Perhaps go to a nursery retailer and ask to try out some of the infant seats?

Or for a completely different tack how about one of the erf-ers that are suitable from birth (Duo Logic II/KISS, Hi-Way II, Zento)?

ah, a longer back could be the ticket!! Thanks, had assumed they would all be standard...will look at the others too

Is there padding that gets moved as they get bigger or does the straps/head rest need to go up?

BigBoPeep · 27/05/2012 12:54

yes there's the newborn head support cushion and a foam wedge, I took them out but it looked really much too 'cavernous' round her, her head control's good, but not good enough to withstand a car yet I think?

BigBoPeep have you tried to remore the foam wedge and keep the head support?
