Rear facing seat to fit many cars

Dd is 8 months and needing a new car seat really.
Thing is I don't actually drive myself but we often travel with my Dad (belingo van or vw) my mum (vw golf) dp dad (Lexus) my sis (polo) and then our car is a Peugeot 207.
You can see my dilemma.
How do rf seats fit? Do they attach with the seatbelt like our current one does?

Could one be used on a front seat? As when travelling in the van there is only front seats.

I don't know about this stuff and I know nothing about cars so really need somebody to point me in the right direction

Thanks

Rear facing seats are pretty faffy to get in and out I'm afraid. We have the besafe Izi isofix and it has a crank thing and a long metal leg that goes into the footwell to hold the seat safely in place. I haven't seen a non isofix version but believe it to be similar but with straps to atatch to the front seat...

Sorry if this doesn't make total sense, I'm typing whilst making dinner! Hopefully other more helpful people will be along soon!

The TWE is fastened with a seatbelt and tethers. You can buy extra tethers and then just swap the seat or swap the tethers as well.
Not sure about the front seat abd terhers other than you could turn it forwards for those occaisional.
It's not that difficult to move & is fairly light for a car seat.

TinyDiamond · 29/04/2012 20:32

Thanks. Do you know how much the tethers cost please?

Tethers approx £15. We have a set in the family car & a set we swap between other cars. They aren't too bad to fit when you got used to where they attach to.

yep the 2 way elite is really, really easy to switch between cars and is very lightweight.
easier to install than my previous FF car seat!

it can be used in the front seat as long as there is no airbag or the airbag has been disabled

TinyDiamond · 29/04/2012 21:47

That's great yes airbag is off. So it could be used rf or you have to use it ff in the front seat?

you can fit it rear-facing in the front.
it has to brace against the dashboard though, so you'd have to check that the gap between the seat and the dashboard isn't too big otherwise it won't brace properly

but if it doesn't you can just use it forward facing anyway

We have the britax two way elite as well, we have extra tethers in my MIL's car which is a Peugeot 206 and it fits nicely in our ford focus too (although it has reduced the legroom in the front passenger seat). We got ours online from here.

If you happen to live in Essex I would recommend a visit to the council run car safety centre as they are brilliant and will even fit the seat for you, for free Smile

Remember that the important thing to protect is the head - and babies must not be moved up to a bigger seat until the top of their head is level with the top of the infant carrier seat... even if the legs are getting long for the seat! Smile we need to protect their little heads!

Forgot to say that the twe seat cover washes up well and I find the seat easy to fit (ah the joys if having a DD with reflux!)

TinyDiamond · 30/04/2012 09:52

Thanks for the info about the head.
She's pretty much popping out of infant seat as she is a very long baby (98th) for height whilst weight is only 50th c.
I am not in Essex, I'm in Leicester. Might have to wander over to Milton Keynes. Although it still doesn't solve the problem of lots of different cars as we wouldn't all be there! Would just have to take a chance and hope it fits!
Thanks all.
The twe was the one I'd seen anyway so glad that is the recommended one.
Now to start saving

There is a list out there on the Internet saying which cars it fits which i looked at while choosing... I nearly imported the maxi cosi Mobi but went for the twe as £50 cheaper and a lot easier to source! Smile
