Thinking of getting a maxi cosi tobi. Does anybody have any experience or advice regarding this group one car seat?! Don't mind if it's good or bad or indifferent?!?

Look at this website before making your decision

We have one, seems to get mixed reviews. I like it, you can recline it with one hand from drivers seat. I think one of the criticisms is that skinny kids can get out of the harness, no danger of that with my DS!
It is heavy if you want to switch it between cars.
DS is two and still seems plenty of growing room in it.

We have it, dd is very skinny at 19 months and we have had no problems I would buy it again.

I know a lot of people who've had problems with their DC slipping the straps. It's a bit of a known problem (seems that a fair few people on here have had the same problem)

Other Maxi Cosi's are fine - we had the priorifix and DS never could slip out of it.

Hated ours! DD1 got car sick and it was a nightmare to clean. And then she learnt to get her arms out of the straps from v early on, she was less than 2. Maxi cosi's response was to discipline her better! Not much help when you're bombing along the M62; after a month of attempting to discipline a not yet 2 year old and praying that I could get to he next slip road without an accident I gave up and bought a Kiddicomfort pro.

Tried it again with DD2; she also escaped. It's in the cellar, shall try it again with DD3 and hope DD1 can be moved into a cheaper booster by the time DD3 inevitably learns to escape it.

CumberdickBendybatch · 31/01/2012 20:31

robino - you should have a search on here, there are loads of posts about it...

Yawner247 · 31/01/2012 20:36

Yes I read some reviews about escaping children but the causes made sense...ie the harness wasn't put on tight enough, the straps were too high for the child or no discipline given for playing with the buckle...but obviously it's just what I've read and been advised by shop staff Grin

Cumberbick - I have a feeling I've been on some before!

yawner - straps tight enough (ignored the little thing that was supposed to tell you when tht was correct because she could escape when it was green), not too high. And there's only so much disciplining you can do of a one year old who has no concept of the danger.

Yawner247 · 31/01/2012 21:53

Fair point there robino hmmm what to do what to do!!

Please have a look at extended rear facing before you shell out £200 on a front facer www.rearfacing.co.uk and www.childseatsafetyplace.co.uk are good sites for info etc before you make a choice.

If you do want to have a front facing seat have you considered the Britax King Plus? It's easier to fit, more padding, and did better in crash testing :) only downside is the Tobi will fit more cars so depends if your going to be moving it about.

izz2009 · 06/02/2012 16:34

We had 2 of them. Very happy with them. We preferred them to Isofix because they securley held all four corners of the seat in place and allowed us to put them in the Grandparents car which didn't have Isofix.

We bought ours from here, even better price now. There's one for £118 here

We found both great.

Hope this helps.

I'm thinking of replacing our tobi - no matter how tightly we pull the straps they 'green' indicator is half grey by the end of the journey. DS is now a small 3.5 yr old and not particularly wriggly. I find the straps stick a lot too which is a pain.
