Can anyone recommend a High Backed Booster Seat for Renault Grand Scenic please?

I seem to have stumbled across a bit of a problem. Renault Grand Scenic don't seem to have a stage 3 car seat that fits it. I have a 4yo who should be in the next 'stage' of the evolver (see link below).

It's not just me - people on the Renault Forum also have the same problem. The seat sits too close to the door frame so the seatbelt doesn't recoil properly. It's the same with 2 different seats on both sides (so not just me being stupid).

The 2 that we have that don't fit are:

Brittax evolver

and

recaro milano

I'm thinking about the Britax KidFix, but I'm still up for suggestions. Any help gratefully received. TIA.

What about using one of these seatbelt adjusters to save getting yet another car seat?

Right well i thought I'd update just for sake of the archives even if no-one is reading Grin

I have moved the rear seat REALLY far forward and used the Milano. The adult passenger also has to move forward too, but at least everyone is safe.

I have a grand scenic and have 2 kidfix seats I have found that at some of the heights they don't fit that well, clash with the seat belt adjuster/hit the frame of the car. I have got round this buy moving the seat forward. I did go to kiddicare and tried this one My problem was/ is I want to keep my children in the seat for as long as possible both children are under 150 but one may be nearly 135cm so I didn't feel they really understood the problem I was having. It did seam to go in and headrest go up to the top.
How old is your child? I would not buy one of those adjusters I would get one of these it conforms to the law and is useful for extras in the middle seat

Many thanks for the answer - I was looking at that Dragons den thing, but I really want her to stay in a high backed booster for as long as possible too.

We're going to plough on with the Milano with her seat really far forward (as you have done too). Looks a bit strange, but it does seem to fit and work properly which is the main thing.

The Kidfix was top of the list, but I never saw getting a HBB for a family MPV would ever be such a problem! Confused

I didn't think it would be such a problem either. They fit in the third row better but that isn't a option for all the time. My last car they fitted really well c4 grand picasso. I properly won't get another scenic next time (my car is a motability car so get changed every 3 years). You may find they fit again when you move them up a bit I have just managed to move big one back again. I only use the strap for the middle seat for a friend

smackapacca · 31/01/2012 13:31

Oh well apparently children under 14 aren't supposed to be in the third row anyway!!! ShockShockShock That's from Renault themselves.

I think we've all been sold up the river with this 'family car'

Have you tried the pampero from Halfords? Not that I have a Scenic but it is really narrow so might give enough space for the seatbelt to recoil.

smackapacca · 31/01/2012 13:56

Oh apparently the Pampero is one to avoid (info on the inside).

I think we're sorted for the time being by using the recaro and moving her seat really far forward.

Indith · 31/01/2012 13:58

Why is it one to avoid? (my dd currently in one as it was the only thing I could get to be able to fit 3 dcs in various seats in the car)

smackapacca · 31/01/2012 14:00

Doesn't do well in crash tests. Flimsy? All the usual reasons I think. I'm not an expert on this, and was told by someone who wasn't making a sale so had nothing to gain by telling me.

OK. Hmmm. Thanks.

Suppose it must meet the minimum standards though and my alternative is a child in the crumple zone. Can't bloody well win.

smackapacca · 31/01/2012 14:08

I know the feeling Indith - the seats that could be ideal are the KidFix which are at least £100, and we just don't have it spare.

There's also that really irritating that the Brittax Evolver we bought was supposed to last until she no longer needed a booster. We have 2 children and in total we have had 5 different seats Shock

Children, cars and legslation change, and you always want to do your best but it comes at such a cost!

OP posts:
Indith · 31/01/2012 14:13

Yup we are also on 5 seats between 2 children due to growing at different rates, overlapping in the same stage seat etc and I would love to be able to have the best seats available but can't afford the car to put them in or the seats. Suppose you just have to arrange the order of seats as safely as you can.

smackapacca · 31/01/2012 14:48

Let's face it - It'll be far superior to anything we had as children!

I remember sitting in the middle of my 2 brothers as a child with them linking their arms over me as there was no middle belt in our morris minor.

Happy days.
