Is it just the Isofix? We do not have isofix and nor will we so wondering if the Kid plus will do same job with a 3 point?

There is alot of difference for the safety of the child with having an isofix HBB, there is no/little lateral movement in a side impact and in a frontal collision the seatbelt only has to restrain the child and not the seat too, as the seat is fixed in. With just seatbelt fitted there is alot more movement and the seatbelt has to work harder keeping the child and the seat in place. As you don't have ISOfix it's not much use to you but just thought i'd mention it

maxybrown · 18/01/2012 19:56

Yes thanks I realise that but we don't have it like you say! he still fits in his harnessed car seat at the minute at 4yrs 4 months and not quite (but almost) 15kg so don't need it just yet. He is also forwad facing so already at higher risk in that sense, but I can't just magic isofix into the cars! he spends most of his life tavelling on the bus Grin

Just mentioned it as Loopsy said there is no extra safety in terms of protection to the child, wouldn't want anyone who has ISOfix buying a non-ISOfix one because they don't think it's safer :) You might actually be able to get ISOfix fitted if you really wanted to, but it is an extra expense, was £70 in our 02 Focus and the KID is really the best non ISOfix HBB anyway :)

That's what's fab about the forums, you can always learn something new! I'm a trained child seat fitter and had no idea about ERF until I saw it on here! Have now managed to get the company I work for to have an ERF on display in store, I've sold a fair few in the month's i've had it and lots of interest (as well as people travelling to the store especially) but it's showing Britax that people do want them so now they may make them more readily available :)

maxybrown · 20/01/2012 18:43

Thanks justfor Smile - I knew isofix was safer - I had just meant is that the only difference between the setas! is it out of interest? (what with your job would like to ask you too Grin but we have a 69 Morris Minor and a 73 Landrover series 3 Grin

Because (sorry) if the kidfix is slightly better (putting Isofix aside) in terms of the recline bit etc etc then we will get that anyhow, or should we just get the kid high.........................sigh, Confused

Well they both have multiple recline and the height/width/depth is the same.

The main difference is:

The arm rests on the Kid plus are uncovered, the kidfix has padding and they are covered with material

The Kidfix is ISOfit.

The seat is likely to last you child for the next 8 years, how likely are you to change your car? If you think you will change your car and will possibly have ISOfix then the Kidfix may be a better option :) As the ISOfix stows away there is no problem with using the seat if your car hasn't got it :)

maxybrown · 20/01/2012 21:48

Not likely to change cars Smile

BUT - is that right then, recline only works when used with isofix? (on kidfix obv) Confused that seems odd. Looks like we may as well pay less then for t'other one?

Thanks for all your help by the way!

You can recline the Kidfix if your not using the ISOfix, however from what you've told me i'd just get the Kid plus :)
HOWEVER! You do need to make sure that the buckle is clear of the child seat as you would with a group 1. I.E make sure the buckle doesn't sit between the seat and the arm rest - if it does the buckle may shatter in a crash. Also, the Kidfix/Kidplus must only be used with a 3 point seatbelt.
And it's no problem, glad it's helped :)
