Given completely different advice about RF seat in a small car

I spoke to Securatot a couple of days ago who swore blind that the best seat for my Fiesta would be the Besafe Izi, and that it's the smallest and the TWE, which is the next size up, requires 8cm more space (taken from the passenger seat).

I just spoke to the Milton Keynes folk, who said without hesitation that the TWE would be the best, and when I asked about the Besafe laughed out loud and said it was a monster seat and would be problematic in a Fiesta.

I know the obvious answer is keep DS in his Cabrio for as long as possible and then trek to one of the shops to try them out, but I'm still a bit baffled about how I've ended up with such contradictory advice.

People on my original thread all mentioned the TWE, so I think MK people are right. Why would Securatot be so off the mark?

hmmm I have a feeling that technically "on paper" the besafe maybe comes up as slightly smaller. However in practise, with the angle needed and the brace etc etc it does take up a lot of room

I can confirm, as an owner of a besafe AND a TWE that the TWE takes up a LOT less room, is easier to fit and will go in pretty much any car!

Thanks very much thisisyesterday, a direct comparison was more than I was hoping for! TWE it is then.

My only concern with the TWE versus other models is that it seems very exposed. Is it OK to go straight from the infant carrier to it, with a 12m old, say?

i've been told that the "wings" on it are the same height as those on the besafe and other seats, but it just looks shallower because of the angle... don't know how true that is though as have never really measured them.
I do know what you mean though, we had ours in the middle seat with another seat either side so it didn't worry me too much!
But yes, I think it would be fine to move him straight into it at 12 months

Thanks, good to know! We definitely can't put ours in the middle sadly :( If we ever need two we're going to need a new car, let alone three!

I just had a sneaky look at your pics (really gorgeous boys, btw) and I think you can see the same amount of child above both sets of wings, so I think they're right, it is just a visual trick.

Fling My 11 month is in the TWE and we are happy with it, she was in the Cabriofix before that. The 'wings' on the side are quite shallow, but as she is in the reclined position it doesn't seem to make any difference to her, comfort-wise. I worried a bit about the side impact protection on it but then when I compared to some friends' FF seats it didn't seem all that different.

Good to hear SNA, thanks :)

I think we will go with the TWE. Did you have it fitted or did you order it and fit it yourself?

I bought online but had a local independent shop check my fitting (they sell other RF seats which fit the same way and are trained). Plus, its my second RF seat so already used to fitting the RF seats.

my son went into his TWE when he was 10 months and although it did look quite open he fitted in it very nicely and still has heaps off space at 2 years old. I too was a little worried about the side wings but they are the same as the besafe but the wings on the TWE are outward wings and i think the besafe as inward wings. Not sure what difference that makes. And i was also told by some one on here that the seat scored 9 out of 10 for side impact protection. Im not sure how that compares to other seats though.

I think i may have replied on your original post, but i fitted the TWE into a relatives fiesta the other day and it did fit very nicell and was fairly easy to install considering it was a 3 door car. Dontthink i could have fitted the besafe very easily. Plus ive felt the weight of the besafe and theres no way id want to be moving that around on a regular basis. I LOVE the TWE. One of the best things ive ever bought.
