A car seat to fit a Porsche 911 for a 2yo, please!

My DH has just bought a new car and is keen to be able to use it with me and our DS.

Does anyone have a car seat in the back of a Porsche 911?

Porsche offer one but it is £350! and I'd rather get a proper make if possible.

Any ideas much appreciated.

Fair comment! I'd just feel happier with a reputable make like Brittax or Maxi Cosi if possible.

Even the Porsche salesman seemed a bit iffy about the fit of the Porsche car seat.

Hi, we bought the Porsche one as it was the best fit for the car - it is slimmer, shaped better for the actual car and had more room for my DD. we first had it when she was 4.5. We have put our maxi cosi one in when we have other children in the car, but it gets really cramped. I don't think it cost us £350 (or so I was told...). We negotiated for it when we were doing the car deal and I think we managed to buy it at cost and so it was similar to the price of a Maxi Cosi etc. 911 going today though DD2 due next week!!

Thanks cloudofpink. Which maxi cosi model fits? DS will probably only be in it on short trips at weekends so that could work for us. Good to know you've got on well with the Porsche one though!

We had a mamas and papas one, think it was the predecessor to

It fit in the car ok but dh insisted on using one of the protector mats underneath to save his precious leather interior!

The Quinny Zapp fits into the front "boot" very nicely.

I found the process of putting ds into the seat quite hard because of the angle I needed to bend at uncomfortable- so I avoided driving it with the children or made dh do the loading/unloading of small people.

I also felt utterly ridiculous getting out of a porsche with small children in tow, I could almost hear anyone who saw us saying "FFS get a proper car suitable for a life with kids instead of trying to show off with a Porsche" but that may have had more to do with how I felt about dh's purchase in the first place!

I couldn't fit the bebconfort or maxi-cosi into the 911 either so it had to be the porsche make. Although my daughter loves it. its even more snuggly fit if you lift off the actual seat on the car.

Good luck.

blue I see you are still on Mumsnet so hoping you might see this post.... What did you go for in the end?

DH has the 996 Carrera model and DD's infant seat has fitted in the back until now. We need to get her a new seat and saw this thread in the archives and I wondered if you'd found a seat you were happy with in the end?

IwanttoflyonA380 · 13/10/2012 17:35

Just looked at porsche web site the porsche car seat are britax just badged as porsche If you download the tequipment brochure from here The seat for the 2 year old is a seatfix

Pastabee · 13/10/2012 17:58

Thanks very much iwanttoflyonA380. I know we are going to have to remove a back seat to put it in but that definitely looks like it will fit once we've done that.

Going to wait for a Mothercare code now as it's a second car so don't want to spend more than we have to.

Thanks again.

Get a new car! Confused

IwanttoflyonA380 · 13/10/2012 18:34

Have a look at www.Kiddicare.com they have them for £199 and there are codes about for money off

Pastabee · 13/10/2012 18:40

Thanks very much iwanttoflyonA380. I'll check them out. That's really helpful.

Why on earth would we want a new car soultrain? We love it and we have another car for main use.

This makes me Grin. My dsis bought a 911 in the summer and is ttc. We did point out that baby seats particularly rear facing new born, may pose a challenge (be impossible to fit in). She said not and that all car seats fit in her new car GrinGrinGrinGrin

Oh she is so extremely wrong. I also can't wait to see her get in and out of the car 9mths pregnant and in 5" heels Grin.

Sorry I know it's cruel but seriously

scrivette · 13/10/2012 19:04

Cupcake I was getting out of a Lotus at 9 months pregnant in heels - possible but not elegant in the slightest!!!

We have a Maxi Cosy that's fits quite well in the slim seats.

Pastabee · 13/10/2012 19:04

So long as it's not her main car she will be fine cupcakes. My DD is 11 months and her maxi cosi has fitted no problem. We have a Quinny Zapp that fits in the boot.

Quite agree it's not the car for the weekly shop though!

cupcake78 · 13/10/2012 19:11

Oh please let me as the little sister just enjoy the thought of her plans being slightly more difficult than than she thinks Wink.

She's been known to take ds to the park in a ankle length cream fur coat in February and spent all morning trying to avoid all child contactHmm lol

BikeRunSki · 13/10/2012 19:14

These posts are making me chuckle. All his life my dad liked tonremind me that he had to sell his Lotus (Elan ) because of me. I was DC 3, apparently neither ofvtge boys had "made" him do it...

Pastabee · 13/10/2012 19:16

Fair dos cupcake. I'll defend my car but you've got me with a white coat at the park.

She is wrong that all seats will fit it. Infant seats are no problem but 1 year plus seats are harder to come by and she will need to arrange for a back seat to be removed from her 911 to have the seat fitted.

scrivette · 14/10/2012 19:06

Oh cupcake that made me laugh!

Shilolylo · 17/01/2015 11:46

Ha ha ha ha ha. This thread is brilliant. Having chopped in our Porsches (yes we had two) during pregnancy we now missing having a rag top so was doing a bit of research. Now we struggle to get a supermarket shop plus buggy, car seat and all of us in our Range Rover so I'm guessing the 911 isn't the most practical option.... Maybe an open top bus would be better. No need for the car seat, plenty of space for shopping but it might be a bugger to park at Tescos...
