BeSafe Izi Combo for birth?

Hi All,

So convinced by extended RF argument and willing to pay extra for it. However OH due in June and read that not able to use the BeSafe Izi from birth only from 6months or so. What do you use for first 6 months? Seems a shame to spend £340 on BeSafe, but then have to spend £200 for Maxi Cosi Cabrio plus isofix for first 6months.

Or is it worth having more reclining and lighter seat for movement in and out of car onto travel system etc. in the first 6 months? Was thinking of getting the bugerboo Chameleon so Maxi Cosi would also fit for short journeys.

Blimey it really does add up to scary money...

wouldn't put a new born it. Ds went in to his when he was 4 moths or so but he was a big boy.
CAn you borrow an infant carrier for the first few weeks.

i have a group of friends where the car seat and moses basket circulate as they are used for such a short mount of time.

No its too upright. Have you looked at Graco Duologic I or II? Its suitable from birth to approx 4 years. You'll find it on rearfacing.co.uk. It also has a unique way for removing from base to take out of car and wheels like a trolley suitcase to save you carrying it into house. We have both the izi and the duologic I, bought when ds was 9m and then 13m respectfully (as we needed one in each of our cars). I much prefer the duologic, as it reclines further back, for ds sleeping in even now at 18m (and wish we'd bought it firstly).

Have you thought about getting a 0+/1 combination seat and using it until baby is big enough for the BeSafe. You then have a spare seat which can be used for grandparents/friends/taxi.

Yes, it won't rf until 18/25kg but will fit a 13kg child rfing unlike a baby bucket which very rarely fit a baby up to 13kg. It's always good to have a spare seat at home for the 'just in cases'.

no, even though the besafe is technically rated for use from birth even the manufacturers don't recommend it from birth.

you don't need to spend £200 on an infant carrier. it is no safer than a correctly fitted belted seat. the isofix simply takes out the possibility of fitting it incorrectly, which is why it comes out well in things like the Which? report

personally i would go to somewhere you can try them out.
the besafe takes up a lot of space and may not even fit in your car.... the in car safety centre in Milton Keynes are fabulous from an advice and range of products POV (and very patient when you turn up 15 mins before closing time and want to try all the seats out Blush)

I'd Aonach's post about the duologic- it's now available in the UK under the name of KISS (try this link: www.incarsafetycentre.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php/manufacturers_id/16/products_id/54?osCsid=r3ep58ljn9sjvt4nt1addrnb30 )
I got mine imported but love it. You can remove the seat part and use on a graco pushchair like a standard baby seat, it really reclines, and yet keeps them rearfacing for up to 4 years. It can be belt fitted or isofix fitted - and is v v simple to fit. It is also one of the only 3 seats (with the two besafe ones being the others) to have passed the swedish plus test :)

we also have the besafe and love them both :)
