(Stage 1 and above, e.g. the Besafe or Britax type).

What car do you have, and how much leg room do you have in the front seat behind your DC's car seat?

We currently have a VW Polo that we would like to replace, and need to fit a Besafe IZI in the back seat, preferably behind the front passenger. There isn't room for it in the Polo, that much we know!

DH has asked me to get suggestions from MN as to what car we could look at getting. We're looking for a smallish 5 door diesel car, but any suggestions petrol or diesel would be great.

Thanks!

The Besafe seats are by far the most space requiring of all RF seats. In that way they are the biggest seats.

But when it comes to catering for larger children, the Britax seats win. The Multi-tech will cater for a child that is 125 cm tall and 6-7 years of age. The TWE can cater for a 130 cm child.

The Besafe X3 is just as tall as these two seats, but it´s capacity stops between 105-110 cm due to it´s width and that the children will have their shoulders caught under the head support.

yep, we've just had to swap the children round in our car.

ds2 who is 3, has outgrown the besafe, so he has gone into the britax twe.
ds3 is now in the besafe

The leg support does sit on the floor either side of the hump.
The besafe actual seat is small but the space it takes up in the car is huge.
We decided on the besafe beacuse DS was in it a a relatively young age because his infant seat was destoyed in an accident.

prob different years or something our cars, that's why yours fits and mine doesn't. bah!

HI-

This is where I got my info on the britax being bigger than Besafe:

HERE

I would be looking at non isofix- so, according to this list takes less space from pespective of the front passenger seat...

Is this wrong?

I have 9 demo seats as I run a fitting station. The Besafe seats - both Isofix and non-isofix generally need more room front to back than any other seats in my collection. Including all three Britax seats. I tend to find that the non-isofix version needs just as much space as the isofix version.

By the way,

I get my seats from Sweden from some VERY knowlegdeable guys!

Thanks everyone - still not sure about what cars to try, but we'll just have to take the seat along with us when we go!

Hopefully we will only have to have one besafe in the car at any one time, as by the time DC2 is old enough (due August) DD will be old enough to be out of hers!

Ahhhh you've been looking at the multi-tech and i've been thinking of the two-way elite! the TWE definitely takes up less room (i have both in my car!)

Bearcrumble · 13/03/2011 10:44

We have a Britax Hi-Way in a Corsa. Not much leg room in the front to be honest - and the seat back has to be very upright to stop the rear of the carseat touching it.

We're going to get a bigger car soon.

Gingerbreadgiraffe and thisisyesterday - I have a feeling you might be talking about two different Britax's!!! :) :) The TWE is smaller than the Besafe I think, but takes LO's for longer due to a tall seat shell, while the multi-tech (I think that's it's name) is much bigger and takes up more room, but takes LOs up to 12.

thisisyesterday · 14/03/2011 22:37

the multi tech can only go up to 18kg forward facing with harness though can't it?
whereas the TWE can still use the harness up to 25kg? (assuminmg the child hasn't outgrown the seat)

Sorry to gatecrash OP, but lenats if you're still here are you able to answer my RF question please?
