Hi all

I have a Maxi Cosi Cabrio and find it great but it is on lend as part of a travel system from a friend and whilst I know it hasn't been in an accident I would prefer to have a new seat.

As DD is 4 months I don't want to buy a new infant one to only have it last a short time.

I am looking at the Maxi Cosi Opal which can be rearfacing up to 13kg then front facing up to 18kg.

Has anyone got the Opal?

Also if anyone else used a from birth to 4 years car seat from the word go, which has to stay in the car, what did you do when you visited people or popped to the shops?

At the minute I take her into my parents etc in the car seat so she can sleep there if necessary. I was thinking maybe a lightweight from birth stroller or something.

Thanks.

go for a extended rear facing seat. I second taking baby out of seat, she will soon be too heavy anyway.

The KISS seat is an excellent car seat that needs somewhat less room the car than the Besafe seats. This seat has all the same options and functions as the Caprio + few more! It´s from day 1 to app 4 years and WILL fit a 4 year old I might add.

Thanks for the advice, I am keen on rear facing however they are a little out of my price range at the moment and also my car is pretty small, however it has given me food for thought.

I was thinking that at least a group 0+1 seat would allow her to be rear facing for longer than an infant seat as the seat would be larger. I understand a lot of kids outgrow an infant seat well before they hit 13kg.

I can get the Maxi Cosi for £176.00 so it is a front runner due to cost but still Maxi Cosi is a superier make with a good safety reputation- I wish I could find more reviews though.

I have read the research on rear facing and that would be my ideal - I may consider the Brittax First Class (£90.00) as a stop gap, then look again at rear facing next year when I am off SMP.

you can get a britax multitech which is rearfacing, from volvo dealers for about £164
will be branded volvo, but it is the britax seat

or the britax 2 way elite which should last you til you do't need a carseat at all, for around £195, which is only £20 more than the opal and so much safer!

it's a no brainer for me
