protecting car seat from travel sickness - yuk

My DS (21 months) has recently started being travel sick more and more often. We have a Maxi Cosi tobi seat which we are really happy with - apart from when he is sick - the vomit (so sorry to have to mention it) gets into all the nooks and crannies, down the harness holes etc. It is a complete nightmare for me to clean, I have to take the whole car seat apart and spend ages cleaning each separate bit - it has to be handwashed and then drip dried, which means I can't use the seat for a few days or otherwise have to put it back in the car damp. Does anyone have any ideas or miracle products that I could use to protect the car seat a bit better? Have just ordered a 'wet seat' product that is designed for potty training to see if that might help but I think it won't contain it all enough.

hmmm, have got my thinking hat on.
We also got one of those blue seat cover thingies that you mention, and at one point we put all the foamy bits of the seat in plastic bags so that there was only the outer cover to wash iyswim. will think some more

p.s have you tried travel sickness herbal remedies? DS2 had 'sea legs' or some such, I'll try and engage my brain and remember what they are called!

Thanks Mrs Shrek, like the idea of covering as much as possible with plastic bags. Am also looking into all the travel sickness remedies although as he isn't 2 yet there's quite a few that aren't suitable.

Would also suggest cover your actual 'Car' proper seat with a car seat saver type thing (kiddicare have them to so dents in the foam but they would serve a dual p[urpose!)

oooh yes to dora's suggestion, but was kinda thinking you would already be there with the plastic seat cover things. I'm still using them to save my poor car seats and the dc are 10, 7 and 5 and it looks like I'll be needing them til they're eighteen for a while yet Wink
I remember that issue of not being able to get any travel sickness stuff that works til they're 2 (and resorted to travelling in the evening, knocking dses out with calpol beforehand Wink but couldn't possibly be seen to recommend this hehee)

tbh if its something that happens often i would get a new carseat,so it can be cleaned easier.

we had a recaro which you didnt have to undo the harness, the cover un-velcroed so the harness could stay on,it was fab and took about a minute to take the cover off.then you could just wipe the straps.dont know if theres any around just now like this?

i always wash mine on a gentle machine wash and cool tumble dry it,otherwise we couldnt get to school!!(my britax says handwash only too!)
failing that you could get a replacement cover for the seat you have,i think maxi-cosi do summer covers, you could put it over your normal cover to protect it a bit?
if you know someone handy you could get some fabric to make a couple of liners for the seat, with a plasticy backing(so it doesnt soak through)???
my dd was awfully carsick when she was newborn until she was 5months,it was awful, even a couple of miles and she was really sick, luckily she grew out of it,but it was awful, so i really feel for you x

one thing that helped her was a drink of something sweet (fruit juice),this was actually reccommended by our doctor and it helped her a lot.

We had the same problem with dd1, and ended up buying a spare seat cover so we could wash and dry at leisure.

Then as soon as the travel-sickness had stopped she went through a really bad phase of wetting herself, so once again the spare cover was kept busy.Hmm
