Can anyone help me please. Ds is 3 in a few weeks, his eyes are level with car seat and he is 17.3 kg. I have looked at high back boosters and have also looked at you tube and the impact on a three yr olds organs in the event of an accident only restrained with a seat belt in a high back booster at this age. On the other hand I looked at the recaro young sport where you can use a five point harness until they a four (Please correct me if my info is wrong) but the recaro doesn't do well on the which? Report

I have now gone round in circles and totally confused myself.....can anyone please help advise me which seat is the best one to put him in next

Prdcious little ones and bambino direct both show incorrect images of Tott against tott xt description.

Have emailed them for clarification

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 07/02/2011 22:25

Can you let us know what they say OADCB please?

Papaya · 07/02/2011 22:49

Have emailed Phil and Ted as I really liked the idea of the tott with the five point harness but as my son is quite tall someone mentioned the hbb isn't adjustable with their height so I am pretty much back to square one....and going round in circles tbh. I also wanted clarification of the side impact regards the tott xt but Phil and teds haven't replied to any emails redarding the level of side impact protection offered, if any at all as it's not mentioned on the Phil and Ted website.

Was tempted after more research (and a new subscription to which.....) to go with the kiddy pro guardian ( up to 12 years) looks very impressive on the kiddy website, but on the which report it only gets 3 stars for frontal impact grrrr! It's still rated as a best buy as well, which also makes me slightly doubt the whole 'best buy' rating and maybe go with the seat which offers a more even rating of stars as opposed to a seat with 5stars for side impact and 3 stars for frontal impact, I would rather have a seat that offers 4 stars for everything iyswim

... the whole car seat choice is starting to really send me a bit crazy, we are subjected to terrible roads round here and I really want to be sure my son is in the safest seat possible, which will also last him. The concord transformer gets four out of five stars for everything... But again it's going to mean moving ds to an adult belt which I didn't really want to do yet....

Reading threads regards car seats and it seems a lot of us have the same problem, Will keep eye out to see if the OP has had any more luck finding anything out about the Phil and teds seats, or if anyone else has managed to find anything out my son is 18 kg on the dot, britax kid fix isofix also scores four out of five stars for everything so I may be tempted with that as well

OADCB · 08/02/2011 06:40

Bambino direct did a thanks for letting us know but didn't actually answer my question!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 08/02/2011 19:52

Grrrr!

Tamashii · 08/02/2011 20:25

We are having this exact same issue at the moment. I am looking for more info on the Phil & Teds Tott XT too - there is definitely a niche in the market wrt this age group. Please let us know if you find the perfect car seat! :)

OADCB · 08/02/2011 21:57

Tamashii the Tott XT only harnesses til 18kg.

It the TOTT that is 25kg and no where sells it!

lenats31 · 08/02/2011 22:17

The Tott has the 18 kg limit for the harness. After that you must use it as a highback booster.

Not according to the instructions on phil and teds website

Hello all, sorry for not posting any findings for ages had a prob with our Internet

I feel quite stuck still, can't find a tott seat anywhere. Looked at the britax frontier 85 an amazing high back booster with a five point harrness upto 85 pound as per britaxusa website. BUT I spoke to a lady at britax customer care, the lady was very knowledgeable and said it had not been tested in the uk so would therefore be illegal to use here, but did suggest I look at the bitax two way elite.
Also looked at the graco nautilus which in the USA allows you to use five point harness upto 60 lbs this is also sold in the uk, but the uk states you can only keep the child harnessed up to 18kg.!!!!!!!!

So the hbb with five point retrainsts over 18kgs eem to be none existent in the uk was looking into the kiddi seats but the impact cushion only goes to 18kg.

For me the option seems to be britax two way elite, or a high back booster which scores the best on which, probably either the britax kid fix or the concord transformer t isofix, which Have good safety ratings and I can also try them before I buy.

Still really reluctant for ds to not b in five point harness, just no where here stocks the elite for me to look at so unsure whether I should risk that seat or not!

We have the Cybex solution X, which dd went into at 3.7, and it has been wonderful, so the new version with the front cushion could be good. I had it imported from Germany as they weren't available over here then, maybe look at seeing if you can get something you like imported?

greyriver · 16/02/2011 13:51

Does anyone know anything about this seat? There doesn't seem to be any confirmation how long the five point harness can be used up until?

renolux

the cybex looks like another good hbb too, have just looked and found these seats in halfords! thanks :)

I'm probably a bit late to help you, but we had a lot of dificulty getting a car seat to fit our two year who has dislocated hips and is in a hip brace. We got invaluable help from the In Car Safety Centre. Just google them. She escaped too and they sold us a buckle to fit to the seat. I was worried about the impact of getting our daughter out in case of an accident. Man reassured me in saying that the fire brigade would have no hesitation in just cutting straps and what was more dangerous...what might happen or your child escaping every day!

Give them a call and explain your problem. I'm sure they'll be able to help and offer you some advice. You don't even need to buy from them. Hope that's of some help.

OADCB · 16/02/2011 17:37

instructions here for that renolux

Appears harness is only til 18kg
