Advice re (prob forward facing) seat for grandparents car (group1)

DS is 2.3, 14kg and 90cm tall (roughly). In our car he has a rearfacing Britax 2-way elite, which should fit him for a while yet.

My mum would like a car seat for him. Main criteria are ease of fitting and removing, and likely to last him as long as possible (because he wont use it much, although she is expecting more grandchildren).

I don't think another rear-facing seat is the best idea, mainly because they have 3 different cars they may put the seat in, and chnging the tethers and fitting the seat is a bit of a hassle. And whilst I am convinced rf is safest, I am also concerned that the seat is well fitted.

So given that, is an isofix seat the best? I haven't really looked at isofixes before and I dont fully understand what I need. Do I need a base as well as a seat?

Any recommendations?

I think but might be wrong that if you get an isofix then each of their 3 cars needs to have the isofix fitting already?

On a practical note changing seats regularly into different cars is a real faff and tricky to do properly each time. Would they genuinely need to keep swapping it from car to car? I would be worried a bit about that tbh, rushing out with potentially unsettled child and concentrating on fitting it at the same time.

You would be best off with a car seat that uses an impact cushion rather than a 5 point harness. Better neck protection in a collision.

all 3 cars would need to have iso-fix,
but you would also need to check the seat will fit in each of the 3 cars,

what about one of the ones with an impact cushion? easier to fit?

Based on what you have said I think a impact cushion seat like this one

The kiddy seat did very well in which report. You can get one that goes to 18kg or onr that goes to 36kg (about 12years)

have you looked at the KISS or Graco Duologic? (same seat). It is isofix or seatbelt fitted, and is really easy to fit. requires no tethers for either type of fitting, and takes up relatively little room :)

Thanks very much. Should have said, 2 of the cars are the same make and similar models (Golfs, one slightly newer than the other) so what willl fir one should fit the other. The third car is unlikely to be used. They would know in advance which one so could fit it when DS wasn't there (so could concentrate) but just wouldn't want to leave it in the car for weeks on end when he isnt around.

Had not heard of impact cushions so will have a look at those and the KISS one.

So glad I asked!
