Hi, I've tried doing a quick search but can't find the answer.
Does anyone know which high back boosters were voted the safest by which.
Thanks

Info here too: www.carseatinfo.co.uk/index.cfm?sid=19086&pid=292441

SacharissaCripslock · 09/01/2011 11:25

kbaby, it only scores 43% in the which tests.
I'll c&p the blurb they've written about it -

The Adventure is Britax's entry-level model for children from 15 to 36kg (around four to 12 years old). It is secured using the adult seat belt, which also secures the child in position. It's easy to install, with clear instructions and the belt routing is straightforward. The seat offers both good head and leg support.

It gives better side-impact protection than most backless boosters we've seen, but it fails to protect the child sufficiently in a front end collision, with the child being exposed to such high loads the seat only just avoids the Don't Buy status.

Finish quality is good, but the cover is hand wash only - so not as easy to clean as some seats.

Pros: Acceptable side impact protection, easy to install, clear instructions, good finish quality.

Cons: Poor front crash protection, awkward to clean

Blatherskite · 09/01/2011 11:28

We're looking at high backed boosters too. I was looking for an ISOFix one as all the other seats we have had have been ISOFIX but there don't seem to be many of them about.

Is it worth having the ISOFix do you think?

sazm · 09/01/2011 12:22

cant believe what they said about the adventure TBH,
we have 2 its SO easy to clean, the cover isnt hand wash only, mine have been in the machine lots, takes about 5 mins to take covers off and put back on!!they dry really quickly too!

does anyone know about the frontal crash rating being so low??is this just because its non-isofix and doesnt have an impact cushion??

slightly concerned as i have 2 and was pretty sure it was a good seat!

SacharissaCripslock · 09/01/2011 14:22

Blatherskite, I'd choose ISOFix over a belted fitting seat because it's so easy to not fit a carseat properly when using a seatbelt. I

sazm, which gave the adventure only 2 out of 5 for front crash but it doesn't give any more details than that I'm afraid.

sazm · 09/01/2011 15:34

hmm,lol do you know if other belted high backed boosters are similar in a forward crash or is this one less safe than some of the others??
thankyou xx

SacharissaCripslock · 09/01/2011 18:20

It's less safe than all of the ones that I posted about in my first post on this thread I'm afraid.

But surely all carseats must meet specific safety standards by law so the adventure one might not score so highly but is still safe. Smile

sazm · 09/01/2011 19:52

hmm,i know when i bought it (britax hi-liner)it was rated pretty well,
iso-fix wasnt available then and the ones with impact cushions didnt exist.
i know with carseats (the same as everything)newer better models are being developed, was thinking of changing them anyway, problem is i need 3 seats in the back and some of the new ones are a good bit wider than the hi-liner.
i would love the kiddycomfort ones but i know i wouldnt fit 3 in,and not sure what my 6yo and 4yo would think of the impact cushion.

could you tell me if the recaro seats are tested by which??

THANKYOU :):)

Blatherskite · 09/01/2011 19:55

I guess as we both have ISOFix in our cars, we'd be daft not to use it. I did think that as a high backed booster uses the seatbelt as the childs straps too, that it'd be harder to get wrong but I suppose you could still miss-thread it just as with any other car seat.

We've always had Maxi Cosi seats before but the Rodi is a belted one so I may have to defect to Britax for the ISOFix.

sazm · 09/01/2011 20:11

if i had iso-fix i would def go for an isofix seat, especially with the high backed booster.that way the seat is held in via isofix and the belt is only holding the child, also stops you having to strap it in when the kids are not in it :)

Blatherskite · 09/01/2011 20:17

Good point sazm. It's easy to forget that in the event of a crash, a childless, unbelted seat can be a danger in itself!

BuckingxmasFells · 09/01/2011 20:24

over 18 kilo = no impact cushion afaik.

CabbagefromaBaby · 09/01/2011 20:34

We have the kiddy comfort pro, the cushion is only up to 18kg so not for your 6yo. (I thought it was for all ages but not according to the diagram on it).

After 18kg you use the belt like a normal booster seat.

It's a comfy seat with good SIP. V expensive though for what it is.

sazm · 09/01/2011 20:42

my 6 yo and 4yo are both 16kg,so would still need the impact cushions,
hmm,i want to get a new seat for my ds (2yo),and quite fancy the kiddy one,or the cybex with the impact cushion, but need it to fit in along with a high backed booster on either side, does anyone know how wide it is in comparison with the like of the britax elipse (which we have just now)??

CabbagefromaBaby · 09/01/2011 20:46

It's not all that wide when it's in use with a toddler but as it goes up it also goes outwards - the sides and back adjust at the same time (comfort model) so by the time it's a full size booster you could get a grown up in it - it's vast.

However I imagine by then your other kids will be out of boosters.

I'm sorry, I'd measure it for you now but am scared to go out after dark and it's in the car!

mollynp · 17/01/2011 22:09

i have the kiddy comfort pro which i bought because it's one of the narrowest around. you need to be careful with the seat belt guide as it's smaller than most. it only fits one of our cars as in the other whenever my son leans forward, the seat belt doesn't retract back

ProudDad8 · 29/11/2013 14:01

The reason IsoFix car seats get a bad front impact rating compaired to non-IsoFix is where the IsoFix is anchored to the car The Seat transfers More of the momentum to the child. this is why they tend to have better side impact (depending on what side impact protection it has).
