Hi
We are looking at one of these as DS is a chunk at 6 months and now screams all the time in the car and we want to keep him rear facing longer than he will be able to in his maxi cosi cabrio anyway - head very near the top.

Looking at the brutac first class plus and wondered how people found it? can get it for £80 new but need to decide tonight!!

help!!

hi, have you thought about an erf seat? i have read comments on here about it being difficult to install rf etc and you donlt get any longer out of it than a normal baby carrier rf iykwim-it still only rfs to 13kgs and then ff to 18kgs. the britax two way elite and multitech rf to 25kgs.

:)

1st Class is ok for a permanent but great for a spare/emergency seat. I currently have 2 - one as a spare for DD2 (2.11 y/o) and one as a full time seat in DH's car for DD3 (12 m/o) whilst we wait for DD1 to grow out of her Britax Two Way Elite or DD2 to grow out of her Britax Nordic Secura (DD2 will move to TWE and DD3 will move to NS).

It's only good to use rfing if you have retracting car seat belts (i.e. if you pull the car seat belt all the way out then let it retract, does it then 'bite' down so you can pull it out no further?). If not do not buy this seat for rfing as the install with out a retracting seat belt is sloppy at best.

The other drawbacks are you can only use it rfing in the most reclined position, there is less leg room than the NS or the TWE, as Nicm says it only rf to 13kg which is not that great compared to the TWE & NS at 25kg. Also, you have to post them through the diagonal part of the seat belt due to the installation method. We escape that by having it in the middle seat and putting DD3 in the other side.

I would recommend getting an Ext.rfing rather than the 1st Class as you will get more use out of a TWE or a Britax Multitech as they harness to 25kg.

I would love to be able to afford to keep him rear facing until he is older but just cannot afford to at the moment. Can get the first class for £80 new - He only weights 7.5kg at the moment but is very tall and growing fast and his head is very near the top.

We do have retracting seat belts so hoping will be ok, have brought one anyway and will get it fitted and if not a good fit will return it! We have a ford galaxy so be interested if anyone has had this seat in one?
thanks

Only 7.5kg at 6 months! My 12 m/o is 8.1kgGrin

It will keep your son rfing until 13kg so hopefully he won't hit that until around 2 y/o (the minimum recommended in the US is 2y/o & 30lb/13kg [law is 1 & 20lbs/9kg] ideal is 4 & 40lbs/18kg)

I'm a childminder and have 2 of these seats, one for my own daughter and one for mindees and I love them! Find them very easy to install and they are easy to move between cars so great when my MIL or friends take DD out for the day. I haven't tried any others admittedly but haven't needed to!

will fit a galaxy but only rear facing in middle row on either side or cetainly in older cars but not centre seat.

That isn't a problem as we don't have the middle seat in! Eats enough petrol with just the 4 seats we use in it! Just need room for dogs/buggy etc

which was the cheapest price i could find (up to 10 days for delivery though) - but also used this code 15childcarseats
to get 15% off, but i think it expired yesterday.... but have just been to the site and when i add it to the basket the voucher box doesn't come up.... very strange - maybe have got wise to people using it with stuff already on offer?

I hated our's. Sold it within a couple months.

Big, chunky, heavy to move, ds1 looked extremely uncomfortable, difficult to get baby in and out coz of the blardy seat belt. No-way on this earth would it have lasted my ds until he was 4yrs old.

We went for erf britax two way at £200. Yes, more expensive but a lot safer. Rear facing until 4yrs old, up to 6yrs as a booster, 5point harnessed until 25kg, good recline, light and easy to move from car to car.

whomovedmychocolate · 28/10/2010 20:58

We have one and we are thinking of getting rid of it because DS can get out of the bloody thing (he's 2 and a quarter).

It is apparently very comfortable but once your child gets the straps to the top level they are too wide (the child) to keep the straps in place properly. Of course DS may just be a little bugger (completely likely). Hmm

Rear facing was better but very big and bulky. And quite hard to fit the baby into when the straps were already on etc.

fairimum · 30/10/2010 21:33

We have a Maxi Cosi Tobi from DD he will go into once he out grows the first class rear facing, the britax will then go in DH car to be used occasionally!
