HI i got my TWE a few months ago for my 15 month old and i love it but recently ive been starting to regret buying it as im concerned about the side impact protection. The man at the in-car safety centre said it had good protection, so i bought it as it ticked all the right boxes for me. The other RF stage 1 seats were too heavy for me so the Elite is perfect. Im just worried that my little one isn't safe enough if we have a side crash.

can anyone put my mind at rest please as i cant afford another one really and it would be such a shame to sell as my son loves it.

thank you

yes we have it. i had the same concerns as you, but I did read somewhere that the "wings" on the seat come up just as high as many of the others... they just look as though they don't!

tbh i wasn't overly concerned as ours is in the middle seat with another child seat each side.

have you tried asking on the rearfacing.co.uk forum about it?

JuneMummy · 28/09/2010 21:31

hi. yeah ive tried logging in but having problems getting on there so i cant ask.

some of the other rfing seats have so much side impact protection though that it makes the elite look like it has hardly any.

If you go onto the rear facing website under accesories you can buy additional head support to fit the elite.

We got one as I have 18 month old in the more upright position now and his head was lolling about when he fell asleep. But it's good as extra side support for the head too I your too concerned!

that won't add anything additional in terms of actual side impact protection with regard to crashes though.... which i thought the OP was concerned about??

JuneMummy · 29/09/2010 20:40

yea that is still my main concern. I am really happy with it but several people that have seen the seat have said to me how flat it looks so it just got me worrying really.

hi, i too had the same concerns as you but it was the only seat that fitted my car at the time. i emailed loads of different people asking for advice and was told that the car seat had got 9/10 for side impact tests in norway or finland. i also asked at the in car safety centre when i was buying the KISS and was told the side impact wings are as high as the besafe but it doesn't look like it as the twe back is so big iykwim.

:)

Nicm Fab thank you, im starting to feel more reassured now.

Most side impact crashes actually happen from the front, because the cars are going forward and additionally the driver will hit the brake in ost cases, and e all know what happens then. Forward facing child flies out of the protective sides of the car seat The rearfacing child gets pushed into the seat.
