Are booster seats supposed to be more wobbley?

Our cybex x-fix just arrived and it just looks strange to me. The isofix is all clicked in but the seat just seems a bit wobbley in comparison to the priorifix DS1 has been in until now especially at the top. Is this normal? I thought I was buying the safest booster seat but I'm worried now :( has anyone had any experience with this? Does anyone know what other seats scored highly in this year's which report?

Thanks Loopy - yes the cybex has something similar - you pull up a bit underneath at the front and slide it back against the seat.

We've been playing around with it all evening but it just doesn't feel secure enough in our car. DH is also a bit worried because he was able to pull the seat forward away from the seat without pulling out the handle at the front. Also, when we raise the back up (as you would when they get older) it just gets even more wobbley :( We're just not impressed! I think it's going back.

We're actually going to try the Kidfix next - it got a better review on Which. What type of car do you have? We have a Vauxhall Astra club. I'd love to hear from someone with either a cybex or a kidfix in an astra just to compare experiences!

The non isofix ones wouldn't be fixed at all, so there would be more movement in them.

Can you go to Halfords etc and try a few different boosters in your car to see if any of the others are more rigid?

Thanks Bertie. We'd like to stick with isofix if possible - I was just really surprised at how much movement there was in the cybex. The Priorifix just seems so stable in comparison - yet they are both attached by the isofix points at the base of the seat. How can the stability be so different? We're going to the In Car Safety Centre next week to look at the kidfix and also a rearward facing seat for DS2.

I'm just worried that we're going to find all booster seats are like this and it really worries me :( I hate the idea of transferring DS1 into a seat that seems less safe than what he is in now.

Yes I was just meaning that perhaps it's boosters in general being less sturdy than the toddler type seats. They tend to be less lightweight and lack the rigid frame. Their purpose really is to adapt the adult seat, adding side impact protection and routing the seatbelt correctly for a child's body though - unlike the toddler seats which are more of a standalone seat in themselves.

Perhaps a Group 1-2-3 seat would be more sturdy? I don't know if there are any isofix ones.
