BeSafe Izi Combi Isofix vs Stokke-Friendly BeSafe Izi? - Esp seeking CarSeatCrazy

Hi

Need to make a decision soon - baby due in seven weeks!

I've just been reading the reviews here re BeSafe Izi Combi Isofix (www.mumsnet.com/Reviews/CarSeatsFromBirth/48?off=0&rank_rev_by=6), and also reading about carseats on www.rearfacing.co.uk/.

Am convinced about the rear-facing seats from birth til as old as possible, so ideally would like something that would last for a few years, though would rather have the safest options for all stages, so if it means buying a second seat in a year or so, so be it. May have a second baby by then anyway, hopefully, so would need a second carseat!

Stokke have just brought out a carseat that fits onto the stroller (Xplory) that we have already bought. www.stokke.com/en-gb/stroller/car-seat.aspx

Does anyone know how this compares to the BeSafe Izi Combi Isofix? Is it to the same safety standard? We ultimately want the safest possible carseat for our new arrival - if it fits on the pram chassis, that is a bonus, but ultimate in-car safety is our primary concern. Can anyone (CarSeatCrazy?!) please advise?

I'm also getting confused though, because it looks like the MN reviews say it's suitable from birth, but at www.incarsafetycentre.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/30/products_id/51?osCsid=fingr59pprg8955qch50g9ra97 they are saying from six months, I think. We need something suitable from birth.

I think the Stokke-compatible one only goes up to 13kg though, whereas the BeSafe Izi Combi Isofix is up to 18kg. 18kg is on average age four, yes?

OR, is there a better carseat than the two I've mentioned, that anyone would recommend please? Safety is what we care about - I don't care if it's hard/heavy to carry, doesn't fit the pram, etc.

Finally, though we are committing to buying the safest carseat, money no object, the cheaper we can find it, the better, so any shopping recommendations also gratefully received, thanks.

My head REALLY hurts!!! Help please!

Thanks.
I've managed to find it for just over £200, but the base is extra.

:) Thanks, yeah, sounds about right!

The reason I might consider shelling out for the extra seat (as opposed to going straight for the KISS from birth) is that fate/God/biology-willing, we'll be lucky enough to have a second baby, so will need a second seat anyway. But yes, that's counting my chickens, I suppose.

I also emailed the MK people about the KISS from birth, and they recommended an infant carrier for the first nine months, and didn't seem that positive about using the KISS from birth.

Do I not need an Isofix base with the KISS too?

I am not overly concerned about pram compatibility. Nice bonus, but not deciding factor.

The MaxiCosi is compatible with my pram if I buy the adaptors. I think they're around £30.

I think I do need to see them lined up, but not sure there is one shop that stocks them all. More research needed!

The Kiss has two parts, but it is sold as one seat ifswim. The isofix / belt part fixed into the car, and then the seat itself attaches to that with a slide and click motion- the seat bit can also be fitted on it's own, just with a belt if you need it to be..... the kiss seat part also has a handle and wheels almost exactly like the one you put a link to - only it's all integral and part of it :) v clever feature :)

If you don't think you'll be doing a lot of travelling in the first three months, then I'd be inclined to not worry about the izi sleep, because of it's weight. I would also go for something you can clip in quickly like loopymumsy suggested :) I loved the ease with which the cabriofix could be slotted into my car- but I have to say I did prefer the neck position of my LO in the izi sleep for those first few weeks. I guess it depends how much you think you'll be out and about- if not that much, I'd be inclined to just make the journeys short and go for the cabriofix. Is there anyone you know locally who might be able to lend you a lay flat seat for those first few months - that's the other option- it's such a v v short period of time that a lay flat is more important for....and the izi sleep doesn't let them lay flat in the car anyway....

in answer to you Q about how long they should be out of the seat for- I think they suggest about half an hour- I can't remember- but I used to just try and time it to get him to sleep, then feed him and do his nappy and have a wander about for 10 minutes, then set off again :) used to work for me :) again, not sure if I've not just confused you more!! If you ever want to look at the besafe, KISS, izi sleep and cabriofix all together, I have them all sat here :) I'm in Devon and more than happy for anyone passing on their hols etc to come and have a look :)

Thanks again, Loopymumsy. Yeah, the BeSafe Stokke seat is the same as previous BeSafes, just with the right slots to make it fit the Stokke pram.

Thanks for your help again too, Carseatcrazy. I'm still undecided though! Confused I like the idea of the extra-safe neck position with the BeSafe Izisleep, but like you say, if we don't travel much, maybe short distances don't make much difference.

We don't really know anyone who would be in a position to lend us everything - of the friends that have babies, they are either still using theirs, or expecting a second baby soon themselves! And thank you so much for the offer to check yours out in Devon, but I think it's a little far from us!

I'll ask DH to look at this thread and see if he is better at making the decision than me!

Not sure if you made your decision yet and I've only read a few posts so I might end up repeating! We have a Maxi Cosi cabriofix which we love. It always gets best buy in the Which reports and it is compatible with most prams. We got it for DS1 and now DS2 is just about to come out of it. I really couldn't recommend it highly enough. We are now looking at the BeSafe Combi for DS2 to move into. In case you're worrying about shelling hundreds for two different car seats within 9 months, the maxi cosi cabriofix is suitable up to 13kgs and both my boys have lasted in it until well past 1 year. If you are planning more children then it will get its use! :)

Thanks, bubbleymummy. I was getting too Confused in the head so passed the decision on to DH - he's quite keen on the BeSafe that fits our pram, the only gamble on splurging on this and then the KISS is if we aren't blessed enough with a second child to get full use out of the infant-carrier. But fingers crossed we go on to have a couple (or so!) more children! Thanks for your input.
