Does anyone drink wine on Chemo?

I don't mean whilst having it! I have cut out all alcohol and not had a drink since April. I am out next weekend (6 days before next chemo) and would love a couple of glasses with the meal we are having.
My head is scrambled and trying to be as healthy as possible but aibu to have a couple of glasses despite recommendations to not! Does anyone?

If they have recommended you don’t, then I personally wouldn’t. As much as it might be nice, think about why they are advising not to.

Your body; your liver, your kidneys, they are all working over time to try and kick cancers ass, to get rid of the worst parts of the chemo and expel them from your body, and your wanting to add alcohol into the mix when your body is doing its hardest and working to the max capacity as it is.

IMO it’s just not worth it, think about why you’re doing the chemo in the first place. It might just be one or two glasses and you think it’s harmless, and it might well be, but why don’t you just tell yourself you can wait until your chemo is done or you get a pause in your treatment. There’s lots of lovely 0% alcohol wines and spirits out there in restaurants that I’ve been having.

I did occasionally. You can't eliminate every single risk, there needs to be some enjoyment in life too.

The only reason I'd say don't is if you'll stress about it afterwards. Otherwise, go for it.

Thanks both. It's a cheese and wine party for someone's engagement! Which is why my brain is craving a glass of red I think!

From what I’ve read, a one off glass or two of wine won’t do any harm. Just make sure you keep well hydrated and beware that your alcohol tolerance probably won’t be as high as it used to be so go slow. Enjoy your night.

I did quite a lot (once a week at least). But I had a cancer that wasn't that responsive to alcohol. I am fine now :). But I don't remember being told not to. I might have been and just forgotten but it was a decision I made that I was fine with.

I continued to drink alcohol throughout chemo. My oncologist said if I enjoyed a tipple to carry on, same with cake! I found I could really drink to excess with no hangover too.
My oncologist was amazing, never gave me false hope and always spoke to me as a person rather than a patient. I was so lucky to have him and will be forever thankful.

I did, yes. My oncologist was a realist who did not sugar coat anything (as we asked him not to) and treated us like the logical, research led professionals that we are. He said from the start that the NHS guidance was to cover all spectrums and it was usually a trial and error thing - I also ate cheese that was on the "avoid" list but as I am vegetarian I didnt have to make that many changes to my diet anyway. I also had a 9 month old baby by the point I started chemo so I wasnt drinking that much anyway so when I say I did, I mean I had a glass of wine. I dont mean that I drank a whole bottle (which would be a few?) - can you have one glass of red then keep yourself hydrated with non alcoholic options or water, if you want to have a glass in your hand?

No please. You can bring along some alcohol free wine, which is usually delicious. I haven't touched alcohol in years but do have occasional alcohol free.

Ask your oncologist. I did and he said while I shouldn’t put away a bottle of spirits in one sitting, a few glasses of wine occasionally were fine.
