Experience of end-stage cancer care at home after vomiting blood

My FIL is with us and receiving hospice at home care.

He vomited around a pint of blood with some force last night.

I am expecting that he will go soon. I have also read the chapter about a violent aorta bleed in Kathryn Mannix's book, With the End in Mind.

I am (and need to be) ready for this, even though it may not happen. It would be good to hear from any others who have gone through this situation and uncertainty in a hospice from home setting.

Thanks for any wisdom or shared experience.

I hope you can ask your nurse about this and get some medical support.
Don’t forget to look after yourself as well. 💐

Have some very dark coloured towels to hand eg green or blue. It does help to 'mask' the appearance of a haemorrhage and aids in keeping things calm. Does he have some midazolam prescribed in case of a bleed? Would he consider a hospice admission?

Know that if he does have a catastrophic bleed he will know little about it and would be quickly at peace. I hope he remains peaceful.

Thanks both for your responses: really helpful have some emotional back up - I know it will have come from experience so thank you². I appreciate Mumsnet for this so much! Towels are ready, but it looks as though breathing has changed and it will be other areas that fail first.
