Subungual melanoma

I'm a bag of nerves I have an appointment tomorrow at the dermatologist to look at my toe
..... I've been waiting eight weeks for this appointment, my GP says it looks suspicious, all the research I've done seems to point to melanoma.
If they feel suspicious are biopsies usually done immediately? As in there and then, or are you usually called back a few days later?

I have melanoma (though the normal sort, not the toe sort). I was brought in for teledermascopy, which is special medical photos, first and then an appointment was booked about 2 weeks later for the biopsy.

I personally would be surprised if they biopsied there and then without telling you first. You may need some help walking or driving after depending on how much of a margin they need to take, so I would think they’d tell you. My booking was very clear that it was for a minor surgical procedure and while I was in and out in 30 minutes, it was still quite a big incision (probably 3-4cm). My guess is they may just have a look and take photos, but if it’s small, they may remove it.

You are absolutely doing the right thing though. As you’ve already waited so long, do keep on top of them for the results. They can take between 3-8 weeks usually. I would be ringing every week after 2 and report any new symptoms, swelling, pain, especially in your leg or groin (which could be cancer or infection related).
