Breast lump found at 35 weeks pregnant

Hi all, I am just looking for anyone who has been in a similar situation. I am currently 35 weeks pregnant and a couple of days ago was examining my boobs as I noticed them becoming firmer due to pregnancy. I noticed a hard pea sized (if not smaller) lump around 12 o'clock above my areola on my left breast. Obviously I immediately panicked as I have never been in this situation before and have my first baby arriving so soon!

Thankfully, I got seen by my GP 2 days later who did a thorough examination and felt the lump. He said no signs of infection and no raised lymph nodes but has referred me for an ultrasound.

The lump is hard and not noticeably moveable but does get deeper the more I press. It's hard to tell as it's very small, just much more pronounced than the other lumpy areas around my nipple. It's painless, although if I keep pressing, the area gets slightly tender but nothing super noticeable.

Dr said he is almost certain it is some kind of swollen milk gland / pregnancy related lump - especially with it's location, but obviously cannot see it to diagnose anything.

For reference I am 30yo, no history of BC and no other symptoms - other than being 35 weeks pregnant which is absolutely not ideal and the wait for this ultrasound now has just taken away the enjoyment of preparing for my baby girl to arrive.

Just looking for some reassurance, thank you in advance x

You’ve absolutely done the right thing getting it checked.

I have had a pea sized hard lump on the same boob in almost the same place but at 2 o clock. It’s been there since I was 17, never changed and hasn’t concerned the breast specialists when I’ve had it checked (more than once).

It’s unlikely to be anything sinister and more than likely be due to hormonal changes with the new baby. I completely understand why you are worried though (I would be too). Just go to your ultrasound appointment.

Are you just being referred for ultrasound or breast specialist. I’d be pushing for specialist personally - they do a breast clinic by me.

I found a hard pea sized lump shortly after birth, a blocked milk duct in my case, the wait is always a worry but hopefully the same or similar outcome in your case 💕

Hey! Thanks for this, it's very reassuring to know. I have been referred to the breast clinic. He said because I am under 35 the protocol is I will have an ultrasound first. Then if further investigation is needed it would be a mammogram or a biopsy if necessary. He has also fast-tracked me as he was eager to give me peace of mind before baby arrives. Hoping I get an appointment through soon but for now I am just trying to not to think/worry about it and focus on the last weeks of pregnancy. I feel great and that's the main thing.
