Likely breast cancer after ultrasound - thread 4

Hi all!

Thought I’d start thread 4. I’ll put links to the previous threads below.

Welcome.

The original thread was started after I had a mammogram recall and was told at the ultrasound that it was likely I had breast cancer - before biopsies were taken, and before I was ready to hear that (if you are ever ready to hear that).

Three full threads later we are still sharing support, experiences, and advice. We’ve celebrated breast cancer wins and thrown virtual hugs around those who’ve needed it. (We’ve all needed it 💗)

This is a hugely kind and caring bit of Mumsnet - where we’ve all felt that awful fear waiting for scans, tests, results, or with an early and uncertain breast cancer diagnosis.

You are not alone.

This is the awful club - full of awesome women💗

@Luluelle just as potential reassurance, I had a lesion show up on an MRI (post diagnosis but on the other side). I then had a biopsy done which returned the result normal. Consultant said that wasn't possible so sent me back for further biopsy and ultrasound, but when the radiographer scanned, she said it had disappeared, which apparently is quite common with lesions, so she was content with the normal result. So lesions aren't always terrible.

Flowers to anyone struggling.

Thank you for the message and sharing your experience. Sorry to hear about your own recent diagnosis.

That’s really good to know as I had thought that a ‘lesion’ means it is almost certainly breast cancer. I know they are being extra cautious because of my family history as they mentioned that twice during the ultrasound and mammogram, before the biopsy was even mentioned.

Hi all, hope everyone is well. It’s nearly half term where I am, so going away for first post cancer holiday. I’ve been ill all week, but finally feeling I’m ok to fly.

i wanted to ask if anyone has had genetic testing? I have an odd family history with adoption in the picture but my mum also had breast cancer and then ovarian some years later. She was eligible for testing then, but apparently I am not. I know that there are new genetic findings all the time, so I’m keen to find out if there is any genetic component.

@cancerycaramelbear i hope you have a great holiday

I would push for the testing with regard to your Mum‘s breast cancer history. I was fortunate enough to have private healthcare when all my stuff kicked in so my experience of it would be different to those in the Nhs.

But going on what my daughter’s been through recently with her bowels and my history of almost having bowel cancer 20 years ago she did have some DNA test testing on the NHS.
We are also pushing for some further testing because of something a doctor at the Royal Marsden said

I’m not sure where you would start this, but I would say definitely your oncologist and GP

Hope that helps💐💐💐

Hope you have a great holiday @cancerycaramelbear

My tumours were tested after removal and found not to be genetic.

I did request more genetic testing because there are many instances of cancer in my immediate family - I've had breast cancer (lobular and ductul), my Mum has had breast cancer (in her 30s), she has non-Hodgkins lymphoma and she's had bowel cancer (she is OK atm!), my dad had bowel cancer and was in hospital with suspected bladder cancer (never confirmed as he died of a stroke) and my paternal aunt has had bowel cancer.

I've recently had my genetic results back and no faulty genes were found. So just terrible bad luck or environmental I guess.
