Recommendations for critical illness cover for cancer and dementia risks?

Anyone recommend Critical Illness cover please?

I'm due to inherit a substantial amount of money and would like to invest part of it into a critical illness policy.

There used to be one that specifically covered women's cancer, I.e cervical, womb, breast, etc and I was thinking about that although I'm 56% greater risk of developing dementia due to previous medical history so I am mindful of that risk too.

I'd like a lump sum payout on diagnosis. So that bills will be covered.

Any recommendations please.
I'm not interested in life cover as have no dependants. So it's just critical illness.

TIA.

Hi OP,

with critical illness cover you pay a monthly amount like you would with home or car insurance. Think of it as an insurance policy rather than an investment.

The monthly premium depends on your age, your health and how much cover you would like.

The policy is set to pay out on diagnosis of a critical illness - cancer, heart attack, stroke for example, regardless of survival or death. Zurich have the best payout rate currently (over 99% of claims) but Aviva are also very good. Vitality Life offer serious illness cover which is different and therefore cheaper.

I always recommend going for the comprehensive cover if affordable as it covers more conditions. Different providers call it different things but most do a basic cover and a comprehensive cover.

There are lots of price comparison sites you can use to look at prices. Always go with a company who is registered by the FCA and ask for a copy of the key features brochure as this will show what is and isn’t covered and changes depending on provider.

You will complete a medical questionnaire and that will determine the final price and any exclusions. If you are currently waiting on medical results you will not be able to get cover until you have them.

A financial adviser will be able to do this for you also. It is usually fee free as they are paid by commission.

Feel free to DM me if you’d like more information.
