more scared after ct scan for suspected cancer

Hello.
I have had multiple health issues over the last year, despite being early 30s. Ive had a lot of pain in my pelvis. I had a transvaginal scan which showed adenomyosis, pelvic congestion syndrome and some enlarged blood vessels. My dr said these enlarged if there is a mass on them. I have also got a large breast lump and leakage and am 2ww for that.

My dr said worst case could be breast cancer thats metasised. I had the ct scan for my pelvis and abdomen today. I cried during it as so scared what itll show. The lady asked me if I was under anyone at hospital and if I have follow up tests. Said its down as urgent so will be reported quickly but dr will collate a lot of information then get back to me. She just kept looking at me with this concerned look in her eyes.

My breast check is Wednesday. I also had a chest ct last summer which was clear. And a breast ultrasound last November also clear, but no mammogram.

I am worried sick. I know nobody can help so not entirely sure why I am posting. For positive stories I guess and hoping the questions I was asked were procedural

I'm not sure I can help other than offer you a virtual hug.

The lady was probably just looking concerned because you were crying and obviously upset - I wouldn't read any more into it than that.

I've had two types of cancer in the last couple of years - one now uncurable but controllable - and I think the 'not knowing' stage is in many ways the most difficult to get through. Once you know what it is you are dealing with and have a treatment plan in place, however bad, it is somehow easier to cope with,

I agree with PP that the not knowing is the worst part. Scanxiety is a real thing. I hope they get to the bottom of it and the news isn't as bad as you fear.

Arthurnewyorkcity · 17/03/2026 13:59

@P00hsticks I do hope you are ok. Do you mind me asking what cancers? Sending you best wishes. Ive been surprising calm until the scan. @Ohjoyohbliss scanxiety is definitely real! Thankfully I had a text this morning that my ct was ok, other than the things we already knew about!? So why im in the so much pain who knows. It appears a mystery. Breast check tomorrow. Thank you both so much for your kindness.

It's great that your CT is clear. Good luck for your breast exam tomorrow.

@Arthurnewyorkcity

It was initially bowel cancer (no symptoms, found following a routine screening test). This was treated successfully via surgery, but they noticed after a CT scan that I also had a thickened uterus, and when this was followed up after I recovered from the bowel surgery this was found to be due to (unconnected) endometrial cancer. I had a hysterectomy and radiotherapy but there is still some in my pelvic lymph nodes, which is currently being treated via hormone therapy (a tablet a day) and seems to be shrinking the cancer - I have a CT scan every three months to monitor it.

To be honest I feel a bit of a fraud because apart from a short period of tiredness and some bowel urgency after the radiotherapy I've felt fine throughout, with jsut the occasional hot flsuh as a side effect of the hormone tablets,.

Arthurnewyorkcity · 18/03/2026 15:40

@P00hsticks that sounds like youve been through it recently, but I am glad to hear youve not had many negative symptoms. Im glad the treatment is working! Also, how fortunate that it was a routine screening test that discovered it.

I had my breast thing today. They think its a benign tumour, however my nipple was leaking bloody discharge, its inverted and obviously the lump. They've taken samples for biopsies. Im going to be discussed at next week's mdt then face to face results the next day. Im reassured the lump looks ok but they said they will take it out regardless due to other symptoms.

Well had it confirmed today, I have breast cancer. Now awaiting scans to see if it has spread :(

Hugs - a subject close to my heart. I hope the next set of tests are ok, both having them and the results.

LeftBoobGoneRogue · 26/03/2026 15:58

@Arthurnewyorkcity
I am sorry to hear your news. Do you have a treatment plan yet?

Arthurnewyorkcity · 26/03/2026 16:36

Thank you both. I am so scared. I have 2 young kids :-( i have an mri on Tuesday, then been told chemo will start within roughly 4 weeks but they're currently testing the biopsies to see if they respond to hormones. Im not even sure what cancer i have but it is aggressive and grade 3 but they said stage 1. They said its the time of cancer they expect in my age (early 30s). Will also have genetic testing done as im young. But I dont understand how theyd know stage 1 before they've checked if its spread!? I feel i can't yet be hopeful until I know that.

Sending hugs hun. I’m so sorry you are going through this. I’ve no experience of breast cancer other than my sister in law who was stage 2 and made a full recovery. Wishing you well on your journey xxx

Arthurnewyorkcity · 27/03/2026 08:45

Thank you so much @Beautifulbracelet im angry theyve told me stage 1 before doing the tests. Feels very misleading. Im glad your sister in law is ok
