Posting here with thoughts on my mind. I’m 26 and my mum 67 has today been diagnosed with multiple myeloma. She has had hip pain which we originally thought she may need a hip replacement however a scan shown a huge lesion originally thought to be benign turned out to be malignant with lytic lesions, blood cancer. Mum will be having radiotherapy first and then onto chemo. She is fit and ‘well’ now and manages her pain with minimal pain relief. I’m worried this is the start of her going ‘downhill’

It is a big shock to hear news like this.

However (as a Cancer survivor) the fact it has now been diagnosed and a treatment plan has been drawn up is something I would see as positive.
Chemo can be rough, whilst it is happening (though varies) but it can also be a very effective treatment for many people.

My mum was diagnosed with this around 17 years ago. She received chemotherapy, radiotherapy and also had a stem cell transplant which put her in remission for a few years. It’s more treatable these days and even though you cannot cure it, they can control it with treatment and many people stay in remission for many years. Thinking of you

My friend was diagnosed with this five years ago. She had all the treatment and currently remains really well.

My mum (67) was diagnosed with MM in the last two weeks. She had hip pain too. We thought it was sciatica or osteoarthritis. We went private for an MRI and they were shocked to find a malignant tumour in her femur which then went into fracture the leg. They didn't know at this point what type of cancer it was. She lay in hospital for two months while they did all sorts of tests to find out the cause before they did a hip replacement. Finally they diagnosed her with multiple Myeloma. She starts 4 months of chemo next week and then a stem cell transplant after that. I'm absolutely terrified and this is so new to me. My mum was a super active proud woman and now she's undergone a hip replacement and has poor mobility (hopefully temporary). I'm so scared what chemo will do to her. Also scared of her going downhill physically and mentally. Feel free to message me if you ever want to talk.
