Skin redness with chemo drugs - cream recommendations?

Hello, I'm hoping some Mumsnet knowledge and experience can please help my mum with some solid recommendations.

My DM has recently started on some oral chemo drug therapy for cancer, and a side effect is that her skin is quite red and blotchy, she has a few spots, and some skin is flaking.
She's quite self conscious and asked me about the CC cream I use, so my first question is:

Can anyone recommend a CC cream (the green colour correction stuff) that would be gentle enough on her skin to use, or good to use on someone having cancer treatment?

She is also after any advice on creams or lotions etc that would calm and soothe her skin - she was given something by her consultant but she doesn't think it's doing much. She's more bothered about soothing than moisturising.

Any advice or recommendations much appreciated!

Just to add, she is mid 70's if it makes a difference

DH has found Aveeno soothing. The Dermexa (light blue lid) for body and the Calm + Restore for the face. The little pot of gel moisturiser is lovely, quite cooling and light but moisturising too.

La Roche Posay do a whole range that's suitable for cancer patients. Unsure if there's a tinted moisturiser in that specific range, but they are generally very good for problem skin.

Thank you. I use the Aveeno range for general moisturising, and I have suggested this to her but I didn't know they did specific calming or face specific creams, so I will have a look at those.

I did a Google search and la Roche Posay did come up as being suitable, but I've never heard of it so thought some first hand advice would be good! I have some CC cream that I use myself (Erborian), but I'm not sure how suitable that would be for my mum or if it would irritate her skin - I've said she can try it and see, but thought I'd see if there's any others specifically for cancer as I know skin side effects are common. I will search the la Roche Posay website and have a good look through their range!

Thank you

I've been on a drug trial for lung cancer . The main side effect is acne , red blotchy sore skin on the face and it's also bone dry . I've tried most creams and treatments over the past 3 years . I've also been prescribed Roaccutane which has cleared the acne . I've found the best by a mile is la roche posay cicaplast cream . It's calmed my skin reduced the redness and is super moisturising . I'm mid 70s too. I found my bad skin was so demoralising as I'm sure your Mum does . If her spots get worse it's worth looking into Roaccutane, it's been a miracle for me .

Thank you so much, this is invaluable. She also has lung cancer, and symptoms / side effects in her skin are almost identical to what you describe. She's also feeling down about it, and she will be on the medication for the rest of her life so is keen to find something to help.
Roaccutane - she did say she'd been prescribed something for her skin but I'm not sure what it was called - I'll check if it was that or not. If not, maybe she can ask for it. She's never had spots before really so it's all new for her!

She would have to see a dermatologist for Roaccutane. I was referred when I told the Oncologist that I'd stopped going out because my skin looked so awful . I'm also on my treatment until it stops working, been on it for 3.+ years . Good luck to your Mum .

Try asking the consultant again or the CNS (Cancer Nurse Specialist) if the one she's been given isn't doing the trick - I was given something by the radiographers when I was undergoing radiotherapy but I think it had to be prescribed. The Cancer nurses should very familiar with what differnt options are available.

Weleda rich skin food. It's amazing stuff. All herbal and organic, available at Holland and Barrett. My husband has used it on sore skin after radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and it's definitely miles better than anything the hospital recommended. It's quite thick and gloopy, so warm it in your hands before applying, you only need a tiny bit at a time.

@Contrarymary30 just wanted to report back that I got my mum the La Roche Posay cicaplast, and she said her skin feels a lot better after using it! Thanks so much. It's currently on offer on Amazon so I got a couple of tubes. X
